It’s time to FREEZE!
Southern Freeze is back for 2027 with 25K, 50K, and 50-mile distances along the beautiful RiverWalks of Columbus, Georgia, and Phenix City, Alabama.
This urban ultra follows the Chattahoochee River and gives you a unique tour of Columbus along the way. You’ll pass some of the area’s best-known landmarks, including the world’s longest urban whitewater course, Columbus State University, the National Infantry Museum, Golden Park, and plenty of beautiful river views.
And because this is an old-school ultra at heart, you can expect good food, good people, and plenty of support along the way.

Southern Freeze is only half the fun.
Come back to Columbus in August for Southern Fried and experience the same RiverWalk when the temperatures are just a little different.
Register for Freeze & Fry and you’ll be signed up for both the January Southern Freeze and the August Southern Fried, receive a registration discount, and earn a special Freeze & Fry award when you complete both races.
Choose Your Freeze & Fry Challenge
Freeze & Fry 50K
Run the 25K at Southern Freeze in January + 25K at Southern Fried in August = 50K total.
Freeze & Fry 100K
Run the 50K at Southern Freeze + 50K at Southern Fried = 100K total.
Freeze & Fry 100 Mile
Run the 50 Mile at Southern Freeze + 50 Mile at Southern Fried = 100 miles total.
One city. Two seasons. Two very different temperatures.
First you Freeze. Then you Fry.
Aid Stations
Expect plenty of Southern ultrarunning favorites, including chicken noodle soup, grilled cheese, cookies, snacks, and more. We’ll also have plenty of hydration options, including water, Coke, and CeraSport.
If you have special dietary needs or specific foods that you know work for you, please plan accordingly.
Swag & Awards
Every registered runner receives a race T-shirt and beanie, and all finishers receive a finisher medal.
The 1st Place Overall finisher in each distance will also receive a special award.
And, of course, runners who take on the Freeze & Fry challenge and complete both races will have a special award waiting for them after Southern Fried.

25K & 50K: 10 hours
50 Mile: 14 hours
