Beware the Fall Creek Beast
The Fall Creek Beast was founded on one principle— help more people experience the community of trail running. We charge half the price of most ultras to ensure more people are able to get out there.
Once a year the Fall Creek Beast emerges from its layer to devour trail runners whole. Will you survive the Beast?
The History Behind The Name
The Swan Valley Monster: The Fall Creek Beast
A legendary cryptid from a famous 1868 Idaho folklore tale — aquatic, fire-breathing, snake-like. Rainbow scales. An elephant-like trunk. A single horn. Poisonous green venom that killed every blade of grass it touched.
An old man crossing the Snake River in Swan Valley met it first, in 1868. He fired twice and watched it slip back under the water. When he returned with a wagon and help, the creature was gone — leaving fluorescent green blood on the rocks all the way back to the waterline.
This race is named for what came out of the water. Run accordingly.
The Course:
Singletrack, double track, gravel road, and a few climbs that'll make you wish you never registered. Both courses are fully marked with reflective flagging and staffed aid stations. Start and finish on Rainbow Valley Ranch, half mile down the Fall Creek Road.
The Signature Climb: Prospector Peak
Both distances climb Prospector Peak. There is no way around it — there never has been. It is the spine of this course and the price of the finish line.

50K Course:
Start: 6:00 AM
6,000 ft of gain · Prospector Peak · 9-hour cutoff (3:00 PM)
The Full Beast. 6000 ft of pain and terror. 3 aid station passes. Start near the entrance of Fall Creek Road and run the Pritchard Creek Loop back to the Road. Take the Horse Creek Loop clockwise before your final climb: Prospector peak. The Beast will most likely devour you before you get to that point, but good luck anyway.
13.1M Course:
Start: 9:00 AM
2,700 ft of gain · Prospector Peak · 6-hour cutoff (3:00 PM)
The Three Fingered Half Beast. Smaller but more difficult to see before it attacks. 3 Aid Station passes. Run to the top of Rainbow Valley Ranch before descending to the Fall Creek Road and climbing Prospector Peak. Run to the turnaround point, kiss the sign, then back to the finish/start — if you survive that long.
