Area 51k Trail Race

Escape the pavement and experience one of North Mississippi's most exciting single-track trail races at the Area 51K Trail Race in Hernando, Mississippi. Whether you're chasing a personal best or tackling your first trail race, Area 51K offers a fast, fun, and surprisingly challenging course through the scenic Area 51 Trail System.

Choose between the 25K or 51K, both featuring flowing single-track, punchy climbs, fast descents, and winding wooded trails. With nearly 100 feet of elevation gain per mile, the course rewards smart pacing while remaining highly runnable for runners of all experience levels. The 25K features two loops on the Voyager trail and the 51K will be four loops. Distances are approximate, because on the trails, every run is a little different.

This race is about more than crossing the finish line. It's an opportunity to experience the incredible trail network maintained by the North Mississippi Trail Alliance while enjoying the camaraderie of the local trail running community. Whether you're racing for the podium or simply looking for your next outdoor adventure, you'll find a welcoming atmosphere, well-marked trails, enthusiastic volunteers, and plenty of post-race stories to share.

We want the Area 51k to feel like a true grassroots event while still delivering a first-class race experience. To make that possible, we've had to introduce an entry fee this year.

Your registration helps us provide high-quality race amenities, including a custom finisher medal, race shirt, well-stocked aid stations, post-race food, and additional race swag. The course is designed so you'll pass the main aid station at the start/finish area three times, with an additional water and electrolyte station located on the back section of the loop to keep you fueled throughout the race.
