The Hydra
According to Greek mythology, the Hydra is a monstrous, snake-like creature with multiple heads, one of which is immortal. If a warrior manages to cut off one of these heads, two more will grow back in its place.
Rumor has it that the Hydra has been seen roaming the trails of Brunswick Nature Park, keeping a close eye on his treasure, ready to challenge any trespassers who dare to come searching for his riches. So...are you ready for an adventure?
The Ultra Running Guys bring you a new unique race experience where your mission is to conquer the 5 heads of the Hydra and collect the treasure that is protected by each.
All events will start at 8:00 am!
Are you ready to take on The Hydra?
50K Events
For the 50K events, there will be an individual event and a team relay event (up to 5 runners), and the objective is to complete each of 5 separate loops, collect the treasure that awaits on each loop, and return with it to prove you conquered that head of the Hydra.
The 5 loops will be varying lengths of approx 5-7 miles, for a combined total course distance of 31ish miles (50Kish).
But here's the twist: the order you run the loops will be completely random. That’s right. You won't find out what loop is next until you finish the previous one. You or your team will complete all 5 loops as your adventure takes you throughout Brunswick Nature Park.
Chances are that you will have no idea who is in first place or last place because other runners may or may not be running the same loop as you. The first runner / team to successfully collect all the treasure is the victor, aka The Hydra Slayer(s).
Half Marathon-ish
If the 50k sounds daunting, we have added a 1/2 marathon-ish option for you that will allow you to experience the Hydra on a 2 loop course. Like the 50k, your first loop will be randomized and you will be sharing the course with the 50k events.
Just because it is 2 loops doesn't mean it is going to be easy. This is a trail event and each loop will be 6-7 miles that takes you throughout most of Brunswick Nature Park.
Aid Stations
There will be one main aid station at the start/finish line. Each loop of the Hydra will start and stop in the central parking lot of the park. Additional unmanned water stations will be available on the longer loops. These stations will be cupless. All runners are encouraged to carry hydration on them and should plan to have a refillable handheld or hydration pack.
The main aid station will have plenty of goodies available, but if you have any special favorites, make sure to bring them along for the day.
