Peacock Challenge Is On!
Thank you for your patience as the Peacock Challenge has gone through the challenges of permitting the race and changing the registration process. We have arrived. The State of Hawaii is very satisfied with the in depth documentation provided to them to allow us to hold the event. The documents are signed, sealed, and delivered.
We are currently in the process of reviewing each runners history and accepting those into the event that meet the race requirements. For your piece of mind we have enabled the viewing of the entrant list at https://ultrasignup.com/entrants_event.aspx?did=38836 . If you do not see your name on the list; we are either reviewing your race history, or you have not accepted the invite to the event.
In any case this is a monumental day for us all. We will deliver a fantastic running experience. Thank you for your patience throughout the process. Now, go out and train.
Peacock Challenge 55 Mile
The Peacock Challenge (PC) 55, brought to you by the HURT ohana, is an extremely difficult event designed for the most adventurous and well-prepared ultrarunner. Conducted on trails located in the Kuaokala Forest Reserve Area above the Dillingham Airfield (Waialua, Hawai‘i), the race is noted for its grueling terrain, incredible heat and humidity, all within a uniquely scenic course high above West and North O'ahu, offering breathtaking views of the majestic blue coastline of the Pacific Ocean.
Local time: 9:54 AM
Due to the extreme nature of the course, distance, and climate, participants must have completed an official trail ultrarun (documented results via Ultrasignup) of at least 50 kilometers within the past 2 years (June 1, 2014).
The course is remote and brutal. Course cutoffs have been established for the safety of the runner and will be strictly enforced. In depth course maps, details and runner information can be found at http://www.hurthawaii.com/peacock-challenge-55-miles.html.
In keeping in the tradition of the HURT 100, and the HURT Trail Series, this event is designed to be a low-key event.
55 miles over two identical laps run in the same direction (27.5 miles / lap)
Approximately 12,500 feet of elevation gain / loss for the entire event (6250 feet per lap)
76% single-track trail, 24% asphalt road (Mokuleia Access Road / AKA Long Road).
Terrain consists of mostly packed soil surface generously interspersed with rocks, puddles and mud wallows (many more if raining). Sections of trail passing through forest, along exposed ridges and past vertical embankments
16 hour time limit for the event, an hour 8 cutoff will be employed after the first loop, additional cutoffs will be employed both at the three way aid station and at the bottom of Mokuleia Access Road on lap two.
Four Aid Stations / Lap.
PC 55 is limited to 100 entrants.
Registration For Event
PC 55 is a pre-registration event. Once run credentials are verified (not before 8/1/2016), runners will either be accepted into the event or denied. When accepted, the credit card on file will be billed.
