LIMITED TO 70 RUNNERS!!!
This is a low cost fee event hosted by Dancing Donkey Racing and is open to all runners.
Both runs (50K and 25K) will start at 7:30AM and there will be a 11 hour time limit (6:30PM). The sun will be setting before 6:30PM, so please plan to be off the mountain before it gets dark!! Both the 50K and 25K runs will Start and Finish at the Unicoi Visitor Center, which is 0.4 miles from the Pinnacle Tower Trail. This will allow for ample parking and will give some running room before starting on the single track. The number of runners is limited as this run will take place in the Cherokee National Forest. The course will consist of single track, forest service roads, grassy fire roads, and mountain bike trails. There will be lots of climbing but also some sweet downhills!!
There will be a hard cutoff at 2:30 pm at mile 19.5 for the 50K runners. You must be to this point at 2:30pm to continue to the finish. The course will be minimally marked with ribbons and a sweeper runner will complete the course to ensure all runners are safely off the mountain after the run concludes (6:30PM).

Each runner will be expected to be mostly self-supported, but there will be aid stations for water, SWORD hydration and some snacks/food. This is the reason for the low fee this year. This will cover the addition of more aid stations and food at the finish.
All runners will receive an official finishing time and results will be posted to Ultra Signup. A chip timing system will be used this year to record your finish time. Also a manual timing system will be used as backup.
After the run, we plan to have a some sort of after run get together.
You also have the option to purchase a t-shirt for $15 at the run. See photo above. It will be a tri-blend (cotton, polyester, rayon) unisex fit shirt, available in sizes S to XL. The heather brown shirt will have the Pinnacle Tower 50K logo on the upper left chest area. On the back of the shirt will be the Dancing Donkey Logo and Yee-Haw Brewing logo with the phrase I survived Widow Maker!. The orange shirt will have the Pinnacle Tower 50K and 25K logo on the upper left chest area. There will be the Dancing Donkey Logo and Yee-Haw Brewing logo on the back. There will be a quote as well.
There will be no awards, no medals, no age group anythings...sorry. This is about running and enjoying being with others and having good eats!!
Parking will now be at the Start and Finish location of the run, the Unicoi Visitor's Center. If coming from Johnson City on I-26 East, take exit 32 and turn left at the stop sign. Go under the interstate and turn left onto Unicoi Village Place, which is across from the Dollar General store. If coming from Erwin/Asheville on I-26 West, take exit 32 and turn right and then left onto Unicoi Village Place. We will have someone direct you to a parking spot.
Crew/Family and Friends
There are very limited spots that your family and friends can see you. I will send out available locations for any crew access in final emails. They may just be able to see you at the finish.
I highly recommend that you carry a handheld water bottle or hydration pack. Some of the Aid Stations will NOT have cups, so you need to carry at least a handheld to put water or Sword electrolyte in.

There is a campground located within walking distance to the start of the run. It is Woodsmoke Campground. It is a family oriented campground, so be advised that no alcohol is allowed. This would be a great place to camp, park your car and walk directly to the start line. It may be chilly to camp in late October, but it is very convenient. http://www.woodsmokecampground.com/
Local time: 12:30 AM
There are hotels in Johnson City, TN and Erwin, TN. The closest hotels would be Comfort Inn on University Parkway in Johnson City. It is off exit 24 on I-26 (~8 miles to Pinnacle trail) and Super 8 in Erwin, TN off exit 37 on I-26 (~5 miles to start).
Due to the low registration fee of this event and the food costs associated with this run, I am unable to offer refunds or transfers. You are basically contributing to buy food for the aid stations and post run food. Sorry.
