OVERVIEW

2023 marks the 17th year of the 24HR-ATR. 100% of our proceeds go to support the BandofRunners.org and Jonas B. Kelsall Memorial Fund.  The idea for the 24-Hour ATR came from the trail on which it is held. Our goal is to promote the growth of trail running and endurance trail running. We work to contribute and give back to our local community & the National Parks Service. In 2006, we hosted the inaugural event.  Since 2010, we have been donating 100% of our proceeds to charity.  To date, the event has contributed and facilitated in over $29,000 in donations, with over $20,500 going to our Charities.  We offer three (3) events in our 24-HR ATR Trail Fest:  the 24HR ATR SOLO, 4-PERSON TEAM RELAY, and the 8-HR NIGHT RUN.  Concurrently, we also host a 1/2 MARATHON, 50K, and 100K trail events.  More information on there event can be FOUND HERE. In 2013, we will see one minor change to our successful event.  Each year we reverse direction of the course from clockwise to counter clockwise.  The mileage will be the same; the elevation gain/loss with be the same; the direction will vary!

The paradigm runners and trail runners adhere to is to run in events that focus on time over a fixed distance.  In the 24-Hour Adventure Trail Run (ATR), runners will log as many miles as possible over a 24 hour period. How’s that for a change? Throw time out the window and see how many miles you can conquer in 24 hours.  Runners can select to compete in one of six (6) trail events, in Solo or Team Categories. Everyone will be running to support the Band of Runners and the Jonas B. Kelsall Memorial Fund, our military charities.

Course and Event Description

The 24-Hour Adventure Trail Run will be held within the Prince William Forest Park, located just outside historic Triangle, VA and Marine Corps Base, Quantico. Found 35 miles south of Washington D.C., this run offers a great opportunity to visit the Nations’ Capital and explore 15,000+ acres of Virginia’s National Park wilderness.

The course is in a National Park of rolling hills, 6.25 mile loop (8 loops = 50 Miles; 10 loops = 100K; 12 loops = 75 Miles 16 loops = 100 Miles) with approximately 800+ feet of elevation gain/loss per lap. Over 6 miles of each loop is single track trail running.  1/4 mile is on a forest fire road.  Each loop will begin at the Start/Finish for the 24-hour ATR. There will be a satellite water point at approximately the half way point. as the Start and Finish area and the base of operations for all things related to the trail races.  Camp amenities include dormitory lodging, rustic cabin lodging, showers, bathrooms, parking, large aid station pavilion, large mess hall, and food is available for all participants.  We have pre-race meal, along with a tech shirt, finishers awards, and the best aid station spread on the East Coast.  There will be plenty of roots, rocks, mud, and dirt of the trail, but generally this is a non-technical single trail adventure trail run.

The Course has been designed and race formulate by Scott and Alex in such a fashion to allow the most experienced of trail runners and the newest trail runners to run side by side. There will be uphill sections; there will be down hill sections; there will be flat sections.  There will be plenty of roots, rocks, mud, and dirt of the trail, but generally this is a non-technical single trail adventure trail run. Fun, challenging, dynamic, and adventurous. Don’t pass up this opportunity!
