Welcome to the 3rd annual Eldrith Gosney's Pure Ultra. The event will now start and finish at Old Mill Park in Mill Valley. This is the famous park made famous by the Dispea, Double Dipsea and Quadruple Dipsea. Even more famous is the Dipsea Trail home to the oldest trail race in the United States. You will experience the famous Dipsea Stairs (671 of them up and then down) through the Mill Valley Hillside of beautiful homes before it opens up into Mt Tamalpais State Park. You then get to run around Muir Woods before ascending to one of the most iconic aid stations in the world, Cardiac Hill. The views start to get better as you descend off Mt Tam and towards Stinson Beach where you will turnaround to see what it looks like in the other direction, including the Steep Ravine Ladder. We are honored to name an event after someone who is as sincere, generous, and accomplished as Eldrith.

"Pounded by semi-insane runners every June since 1905, the Dipsea Stairs might be the most storied stairwell in the West."

Event Description: Eldrith Gosney's Trail Run & Pure Ultra

Everything right about trail running is found here: a celebration of community, the strength of the human spirit, the environment, and a very challenging event. This trail race takes us back to the beginning of ultra-running: a purposely small and intimate event, capped at 200 runners.

At 76, Eldrith is a legend in the Bay Area running community. She started ultra-running long before the internet or Ultrasignup.com tracked results and no one knows how many ultras Eldrith completed. We know of 172 events in the last 27 years that she completed, including

- 150 Ultra Marathons
- Four 100-mile trail races, including Western States 100 Mile Endurance Run
- Forty-five 50-mile trail races
- Fifty-nine 50km trail races
- 12 Quad Dipsea finishes, and she is the current 70-79 age group record holder

This new race is part of Eldrith’s actual training run for the Quad Dipsea event! If you want to “be like Eldrith” and celebrate the best of trail running, this event is a must! Don’t miss out on this epic race.

- 47K: $80, $95 (Sept 1st), $105 on Race Day.
- 34K: $65, $80 (Sept 1st), $95 on Race Day.
- 22K: $60, $75 (Sept 1st), $85 on Race Day.
- 12K: $50, $65 (Sept 1st), $75 on Race Day.

Course Description

Utilizing some of Mount Tamalpais's most beloved trails - Dipsea, Heather Cut-off, and Steep Ravine- Eldrith Trail Run & Pure Ultra has strung them into a unique and extremely challenging run. Eldrith has four distance options:

47K Pure Ultra: As Eldrith says, “This course is not for weenies.” It starts at Old Mill Park in Mill Valley and heads up the Dipsea Stairs and trail to Cardiac Hill in Mt. Tamalpais State Park running through Muir Woods National Monument. Then you will continue down the Dipsea Trail to Stinson Beach. After you will return up Dispea Trail and but turn left up the gorgeous Steep Ravine Trail where you will encounter the famous ladder. Back up to Cardiac and then down to Santos Meadows and the Heather Cut-off Switchbacks. This is a gentle down and back up to Cardiac before you head back to Old Mill Park. But wait, now you need to head back up to Cardiac Hill and back to earn your PURE ULTRA status and receive your coaster.

34K: Similar to the 47k, rather you will not run back to Cardiac for the second time.

22K: It starts at Old Mill Park in Mill Valley and heads up the Dipsea Stairs and trail to Cardiac Hill in Mt Tamalpais State Park running through Muir Woods National Monument. Then you will continue down the Dipsea Trail to Stinson Beach. After you will return up Dispea Trail and but turn left up the gorgeous Steep Ravine Trail where you will encounter the famous ladder. Back up to Cardiac and then down to Old Mill Park.

12K: Starting at Old Mill Park you will run up the world famous dispea stairs and trail to the equally famous Cardiac Hill Aid Station. Then you will run back down to the finish for what will be a very challenging 12K.

Running “An Eldrith": The true "Eldrith Training Run" starts at Stinson Beach and runs up the Dispea Trail to Cardiac Hill, then down into Old Mill Park of Mill Valley. She would then complete a "Double Dipsea" returning to Stinson Beach. Then, its back up to Cardiac Hill on the Dipsea and then reversing direction, she heads back down to Stinson Beach... and that's ""An Eldrith".
Summarizing: Stinson Beach --> Old Mill Park --> Stinson Beach --> --> Cardiac Hill --> Stinson Beach

*** Update 1/4/18: We have been notified that the foot bridge is still out on the Dipsea Trail at the entrance of Muir Woods. We have a slight reroute shown on this map. We will keep both maps up for your viewing so you can see the difference. It could add a 0.57of a mile to the course each direction. There will be course monitors there to guide you through the Muir Woods Tourists. Please be mindful of sharing the trail and paths like you always do. 😊

This makes it a little longer but also a little easier without “Dynamite” section of the Dispea Trail. All else will remain the same on the charts. Cut-offs will remain the same.

RunGoAPP.com: We use this application to create our maps. Below are the links from RunGoApp mapping services. You will see an "Elevation" tab at the bottom right of the desktop computer layout. We will be creating an all-inclusive map with ribbons colors.

The 47K course will feature two courses: the 34K and the 12K. They will total 47K because of the overage on each distance.

Shirts & Awards

Shirts
All participants that register by December 23, 2017 will be guaranteed their requested shirt size and material. We will order extra shirts based upon previous race data and relative entries. All race day registrants must wait until after the event to pick up their shirt. You will most likely not receive a shirt of their requested size, but you may be generous to gift a different gender and sized shirt to a loved one.

Shirt Material
To help you with your shirt size decision, we can tell you the "Tech-Material" (not cotton) shirts are made by Sport-Tek and generally run "loose" and not tight fitting and therefore recommend you order your true size or smaller if you like tight fitting tech shirts. The shirts will be black long sleeve and will have the new Eldrith logo on the front like the picture above.

Awards
All finishers will receive a finishers medal similar to the ones in the above photo. We use Elevation Culture to make our amazing finisher medals.

47K Finishers will receive a commemorative "Ultra Marathon" coaster from the event.
