The Hellbender 100 begins at the picturesque Camp Grier in Old Fort, NC. From there, the route will take you over some of the highest mountains on the east coast and deep into the valleys below, passing by gorgeous vistas, thundering creeks, and majestic forest. The start and finish of the course is at 1,500 ft and the high point of the course is 6,500 ft in the beautiful Black Mountains! The climbs are huge with five climbs and descents of 3,000 ft or more. All together the course has 25,000+ ft of elevation gain and 25,000+ ft of descent. The terrain is classic east coast, which is a mix of soft dirt and extremely technical rocks and roots. A classic mountain course in the heart of Appalachia!

NO REFUNDS AFTER JAN. 1
Yes, we maintain an ordered wait list through Ultrasignup which can be found under the coffee cup icon. As runners withdraw from the race, people on the wait list will be given an opportunity to register for the race based on the order they are listed. Selected participants will be notified via email once you have been selected. We give runners approximately 2 weeks to decide whether they want to sign up or pass on the opportunity. We remove invitations once the appropriate amount of time lapses. If we are within 2 weeks of the end of the registration period, you will get 2 days to decide so that we can fill the rooster with runners who truly want to be in the race.
The odds of getting off the wait list depends primarily on the amount of turnover from the registered runners list. Since we don’t have any control over this, your guess is as good as ours.
Entrants will receive a long sleeve shirt.
Finishers will receive a custom belt buckle.
Fully stocked aid stations (pacers included).
Food & beverage at the finish line.
Safety blinking light, Headlamp after Aid Station 4
