First started in November of 1980, this 46 mile trail race on the beautiful Pine Mountain Trail system of F.D. Roosevelt State Park is the oldest ultra marathon in the state! This GUTS event will test your endurance and your ankles over rocky single-track trails. The trail follows the ridge line, going up and over it for the duration. Depending on water levels, the few water crossings could be dry or ankle deep. You'll experience both pine & hardwood forests, rock outcroppings, waterfalls and beaver ponds. When weather permits, 46-milers will enjoy the sunrise as they crest the ridge.
Finishers of both the 19- and 46- mile races will enjoy exceptional on-course support and a post-race cookout at the group shelter. Expect some of the same beautiful and unique "swag" and finisher awards, and be sure to take advantage of the date change to enjoy the park before and after the race. At nearby Callaway Gardens you can take in the holiday lights, and in the town of Pine Mountain there are several local shops and great local eats. And if your family wants something to do while you're kicking rocks in the woods, there's the Jingle Bell Run benefiting the Harris County Humane Society!
Keep Georgia's Oldest Ultra alive and make it a part of your own running tradition this year!
Our 19-mile course travels some of the same ruggedly beautiful terrain as the 46-miler, with generous time cutoffs and just as much fun! Although you will miss Franco's grilled cheese.... and that alone makes the 46 worth trying!
Race details, including aid stations, cutoffs, crew information, and more can be found on the event website (link above).
