THANK YOU for your patience as we took time to carefully make adjustments to the CRATER TRAIL RUN.
YES, we are still on, but...
You feel like running a kick butt event, be prepared. We made some big changes. All your fun and glory will happen in the woods (ALONE). All the hype, fuss and fixings are gone this year thanks to COVID, understandably! We are willing to show up for you and have some expectations and changes to the event in order to make this happen.
First - entirely SELF SUPPORTED
NO WATER STATIONS. Seriously bring as much water and food as you will want and/or need. We will not be providing water, hydration support or food before, during or after the race. BRING ENOUGH.
***NO LITTERING*** Please don't even think about it! We know you’ll take out anything you bring in so the trails stay beautifully rugged.
We will have 2 drop bag locations for the 50k, 1 for the 25k.
The 5/10k will NOT have any aid stations on the route.
REGISTRATION CLOSES July 31st. The capacity this year is capped at 30 runners per event.
25K start time 6:00 AM
50k start time 6:05 AM - with cutoff being 3PM and no runner is allowed to start a 2nd loop after 11AM.
10k/5k start time 8:00 AM
1 MILE cancelled this year.

Packet Pick Up & Check In
PACKET PICK UP will be the morning of ONLY.
Van Peenen Park Trail Head on Quarry Hill Rd, Decorah, Ia 52101
This will be a show up, stay socially distant, grab your stuff out of a box and run your little heart out.
25/50k - 5:00 AM
10k/5k - 6:30 AM
Start and Finish will be at the trail head of Van Peenen Park entrance on Quarry Hill Rd.
Local time: 8:13 AM
-All turns will be marked clearly for each race.
-No runner is allowed to start a 2nd loop on the 50k after 11AM.
-Runners are allowed to change distances up until Friday night packet pickup. After that point, you are committed to the distance race you start Saturday morning and if you do not complete your race, you will be listed as a DNF.
-HEADPHONES - Not encouraged for safety reasons but seriously, unplug yourself, enjoy the view, listen to the sounds of nature and discover something new about yourself. Be cautious of other runners, the trails are tight in most places and the last thing you want is a fall because you couldn’t hear someone passing you.
--Event will go on rain or shine and only in the case of extreme inclement weather may a postponement or cancellation be considered. We reserve the right to make this call as needed. This is a small grassroots fundraising event for a local preschool and elementary school. We do not guarantee any sort of refund to registrants unable to participate or due to the event being cancelled for any reason. Please only register if this is acceptable. We hope you understand and still register early to help us put on the best event possible!
You win, we hand you a prize and say good job, drive safe. We will clap and say the same for all the rest of you.
Top F/M of each distance gets a prize. NO age group raffle prizes. NO post race raffle this year. NO after party.
Let's all be considerate of each other, aware that people are coming together from multiple states and want to run, not necessarily rub elbows with others. We assume your bada$$ery because you are willing to run this event, live, in August.
Lastly, this is obvious but here it is. DO NOT COME if you have had contact with anyone that has tested positive for COVID, if you feel unwell at all, if you have a temperature, have any flu like symptoms or signed up but don't feel quite comfortable running a live event at this time. Thank you for your cooperation in respecting this.
