Three Distances

After the 2023 Snow Rumble turned the 40-mi into a last-minute trail marathon, we are pleased to officially announce that the Rumble now features 3 distances: the classic 20-mi & 40-mi, and now the Trail Marathon! The marathon is a course I've had in my back pocket for years, and 2023 finally forced my hand. I received lots of positive feedback about the distance, so I decided we should go forward with three Rumble distances.
The biggest logistical change will be for the 40-miler, as there will now be just one start time of 7 a.m. for all 40-milers. The Marathon will start at 8 a.m., and the 20-mi will start at 9 a.m. And as usual, dogs are welcome in all distances.

The Course

The 40 mile is mostly trail with some dirt road sections. The first quarter is gentle uphill, second quarter is gentle downhill, third quarter starts with a gentle up before a couple of long, 2-mile uphill grinders, and the final quarter is gentle downhill (with some sweet views!), making for a fast finish. Mud is very likely, and snowy sections are possible.
The Trail Marathon mimics the 40-mi for the first 25 miles, then finishes with the 20-mi. Okay, so it's a long marathon, ~27-28 miles.
The 20 mile is gentle uphill for the first half, and gentle downhill for the second half. Upon reaching the ridge, there are beautiful views of many of the Central Oregon Cascades peaks.
