Course and General Race Details
Set in the shadow of Mt. Rainier, this 28-year-old race offers spectacular views. Like "The Mountain" itself, though, the race stands as an ultimate test of mental character and physical endurance. Over the 50-mile distance, the racecourse rises and falls a staggering 8,700 feet (total elevation change: 17,400 feet). The race features rolling terrain, ridge tops, northwest forest, several sections of technical trails, and of course several demanding climbs and challenging descents.
The summertime in the Pacific Northwest is a glorious time, the weather is usually perfect and the trails are in great shape. We highly encourage folks to camp with us at the start/finish, there are lots of free, primitive, forested camping spots near the start/finish and with the river roaring nearby. There is also an optional pre-race pasta dinner that we'll host a few miles away at Crystal Mountain Ski Resort, it does cost extra but your whole crew is welcome.
Post Race Festivities
We do not offer finisher medals at any of our races, but instead, choose to spend that money on providing a one-of-a-kind post-race celebration. Runners, volunteers, and their friends/family get a post-race meal including all the local craft beer, snacks and other non-alcoholic drinks they want and we always bring in a band to provide live music at the finish line! We strive to create a sense of community where people want to hang out, cheer on their fellow runners, and share trail stories. Our finish line will be just as festive when the last runners cross the finish line as when the winners come through.
