Mt. Ashland Hillclimb Run

Lithia Park

Ashland, OR 13.3 Miler

Registration closes: Thu, Aug 6 @ 11:59 PM

COVID 19 UPDATE

Due to limitations and closures throughout the state of Oregon, our planned event date of June 20th is no longer viable. At this time, we are going to push our date back to August 8th, with a back update of September 19th should limitations continue into August. Due to this, we are offering all registered participants the following options:

1. Stay registered for the new date as you are now (those on the WL are allowed to officially register now)
2. Roll registration over to 2021 for the June date (TBD- but likely the 3rd weekend in June again)
3. Receive an 80% refund now of registration fees.

All registered runners should have received an email with the option to process one of the above options (if registered by April 2020). If you did not, please contact us and we will follow up with you directly. It is our sincere hope that the current trends in Oregon continue, that we see the number of cases continue to stagnate and slowly be reduced, so that by mid summer we can hopefully get back to training safely and running events such as this. It is worth noting that at this time we cannot guarantee the bus rides down for participants, as that would obviously crowd a large number of people in a very confined space for a prolonged period of time. Should things change significantly by our date in August, the option will be there, however if we are not quite confident that we can assure the safety of participants being shuttled down we may have to nix this and encourage runners to find alternative means down (maybe run back and make it the Mt. Ashland Hill Marathon!). Depending on where we are as the event gets closer, we will assess bus rides as well as possibly doing staggered starts (to limit groups congregating), changing/eliminating the finish line celebrations, and possibly even aid station changes. Of course any changes will be communicated to you all as they happen, I just wanted to give everyone advanced notice that even if we are able to have our event, it's entirely likely it will look very different.

We appreciate everyone's patience and understanding as we attempt to navigate these trying times, and as always if you have any concerns or questions please reach out to us and we will try to reply as quickly as possible. Please know we are in communication with our permitting agencies and not operating in isolation, nor do we take any of these decisions lightly.

Thank you
Joseph

T-Shirt Information

This year we will have shirts available (optional), but not included in the registration price. This is by design. We don't want to force shirts on people, and we want to keep the price of this event low, so shirts are purchase if you want them, don't if ya don't. That said, we are offering a pretty sweet deal to those that DO want them. Shirts only cost $22. Yup, only $22. True story. During the registration process, you can order a t-shirt with our amazing, unique logo. We will NOT be able to accommodate many orders day of or at packet pick up. Last year we were asked by quite a few people if we had extras for sale, but we ran out of popular/common sizes. There are no t-shirt orders after JUNE 1st, however if we have any extras they will be for sale at packet pick up. We will be closing t-shirt sales at the end of May, to insure we get them ordered and printed in time. Therefore, if you want one, don't delay registering and purchasing one. We mean it.

Event Description

Notice: No refunds, transfers or rainchecks. *There is no waiting list.

All proceeds go to the Ashland Woodlands and Trails Association. When the event fills, registration will be closed.

Join us Saturday August 8th at 7:30 am for the 43rd Annual Mt. Ashland Hillclimb Run. This 13.3 mile event begins in downtown Ashland's beautiful Lithia Park (el 1900') and climbs on tree-canopied dirt roads and trails to finish on the Mt. Ashland summit (7533'), for a total of over 5,600' of climbing--that's over a vertical mile!

The Mt Ashland Hill Climb Run is among the races with most elevation gain of any continuous hill climb in the continental United States. The following cut-off times will be enforced on race day: 10:15 am to Four Corners (~7 miles), 11:30am to Bull Gap (~11.3 miles) and 12:15am to the Lodge (~13 miles)

Everyone starts at 7:30am - unless we opt for a staggered started based on social distancing needs by the time of our event. More to come as the date gets closer. Start is on Winburn Way in front of Sesame Asian Kitchen right at Lithia Park. There are no early starts. Race packet pickup is the day before, between 3pm and 6pm, at Rogue Valley Runners, 161 E. Main St, downtown Ashland or at least 20-minutes before race start. Participants are responsible for getting themselves back to Ashland. We will be offering bus rides, for free, however you must sign up for this service in advance.

Entry fee is $30 for until April 1st, when it goes up to $37, and goes up to $45 on August 1st. Therefore, you should register early.

Packet Pick Up will be at Rogue Valley Runners, from 3 pm to 6 pm on June 7th. We will also have LIMITED packet pick up from 6:30 to 7:15 am on race morning at the starting line. ALL RUNNERS MUST CHECK IN the morning of the race, regardless of if you picked up your packet the day before or not.

This is a tough event

THIS IS A SERIOUSLY CHALLENGING EVENT.

Please understand the difficulty of this event before you enter it. It is longer than a half-marathon, and has over 5,600 feet of elevation gain. It could be hot. It could be cold. Or both. Seriously.

Much of the course is in remote forest land. Stopping and turning around is NOT a good option and strongly discouraged. Should you opt to drop out, you MUST report it to an Aid Station captain, lest we miss you and be forced to start a search & rescue (for which you may be liable for the cost). Stopping at an aid station and expecting a ride out is also NOT a good option (you may have to wait a very long time and there may be limited room, if any exists at all). Aid stations are located on bumpy dirt roads, so your ride out is not going to be a comfortable one. Your crew will likely not be able to get to most aid stations easily, and cell reception is minimal on a good day. Plan on running or walking to at least the lodge aid station in the time allotted. Some of the best runners literally collapse at the finish line. We don't want to discourage you; we want to encourage you - to be prepared.

Please check our website or facebook page for more information. If you are unsure, email me your questions or concerns PRIOR to registering. Again, no refunds, transfers or roll over to next year will be allowed.
