Hellbender Is Back For 2022!!!
Make sure to sign up on the correct registration page (there will be a registration page for males and another registration page for females) as during the initial registration period entries will be open to the first 75 female and 75 male entrants. The race will be capped at 150 entrants with any remaining spots open for either gender on Jan. 15, 2022
The Hellbender One Hundred is one of the most scenic hundred milers on the East Coast. This course will take you through a grueling tour of the massive Black Mountains, deep into the valleys below and to the summit of Mt. Mitchell, the highest mountain East of the Mississippi. With an elevation change of ~48,000+ ft, runners will experience some of the most challenging and beautiful trails in all of Western North Carolina. You'll not want to miss this premiere, graduate level hundred through the heart of Southern Appalachia!
Male, Female, and Transgender/Non-binary Registration Policy
The Hellbender 100 is limited to 150 participants due to permitting constraints. In an effort to promote female participation, registration will open on November 1st, 2021 with two registration pages: one for men and one for women. Initially, half of all available spots (75) will be allocated to women, and half (75) will be allocated to men.
Transgender and non-binary runners are encouraged to participate! We will accept every transgender and non-binary runner’s self-declared gender category at registration and no one may challenge a runner’s self-declaration.
If your category has filled and it’s before January 15th, please join the waitlist.
Leftover Spots & Waitlist Policy
On January 15th, 2022 any remaining spots within the men’s and women’s registration categories will open up to all runners. If, by January 15th, there is already a waitlist, additional spots will be selected from the waitlist.
If, on January 15th, there is no waitlist, we will open up remaining spots from both registration categories to all runners! You can register under any category at this time.
If, after January 15th, all 150 spaces are completely filled, please add yourself to the waitlist.
By February 1st, 2022, if any spots have opened up, the Hellbender 100 team will select runners from the waitlist and they will be notified. This will allow runners selected from the waitlist 3 months to prepare for the race.
You will not be charged for entering the waitlist. You will be charged the entry fee only if you accept an invitation from the waitlist.
Runners can receive a 50% refund until 90 days prior to the race date. In the event of an unforeseen situation such as military deployment, pregnancy, death in the family, etc. we will offer a full 100% credit towards next year’s race. Please contact us directly to discuss this option.
Note: Running injuries, weddings, vacations, to name a few are not eligible for refunds or deferrals within 90 days before the race. Contact us if you have any questions at https://www.run828foundation.org/contact
