2027 Volunteer Requirement
All runners participating in the 2027 race will be required to volunteer a minimum of 6 hours at any trail race of your choice (Does not have to be a Run Bum race) OR doing trail maintenance. If you do not meet this requirement you can opt out by paying a $20 fee that will be donated to the Benton Mackaye Trail Association or Georgia SORBA group.
You have up until race day on 3/27/27 to submit your volunteer hours or pay the fee. We have a form that will need to be signed off by whoever you are volunteering with. This will be sent out following registration.
Western States Qualifier
The Georgia Death Race has remained a Western States qualifier for the last ten years. Running the 2027 race in under 24 hours will earn you one ticket to enter the lottery for Western States Endurance Run 2028.
What is the Georgia Death Race?
The iconic Georgia Death Race is a 74ish mile trail running race from Byron Herbert Reece Farm in Blairsville, Ga to Amicalola Falls State Park. Runners are required to carry a 1 lb railroad spike the duration of the race. If you finish, then you throw this nail in the coffin and receive an engraved spike for the completion of your journey. The race has 16,000 ft of climbing and 16,000 ft of descent. It is relentless. The race has been called the "craziest and most fun race East of the Rockies". It continues to be the most watched, sought after, and desired ultra marathon on the East Coast. Come be part of the legendary course and see if you can be one of the 60% who actually finish the race.

Packet Pickup: Amicalola Lodge Friday Night before race
Cutoffs: 25 hours total, with hard cutoffs at aid stations along the way
No pacers are allowed!!
Included in registration: hat & pint glass, additional swag may be purchased at checkout
Pre Race Shuttle: Leaves from Amicalola race morning. It is not included. (Runners may choose to be dropped by crew.) Shuttle can be purchased any time before cutoff March 2027 in the STORE on this page.

Refunds/Deferments
Refund & Deferral Policy
EFFECTIVE 8/25/2026-Run Bum Races does not offer refunds, transfers, race credits, or deferrals, except for the limited circumstances outlined in our full Refund & Deferral Policy.
If you would like refund protection, SPOT Refund Protection must be purchased through UltraSignup at the time of checkout.
**SPOT cannot be added after registration/checkout is complete. SPOT is a third-party service offered through UltraSignup and is not administered or controlled by Run Bum Races.
**Any questions regarding SPOT coverage, eligibility, claims, or refunds must be directed to UltraSignup/SPOT.
Outside of our limited exceptions for pregnancy, military obligations, or the death of an immediate family member, the only option for a Run Bum race deferral/credit is to volunteer an event for a minimum of 8 hours for a 50k or longer distance & a minimum of 6 hours for distances less than 50k.
Participants who registered prior to 8/25/2026 remain subject to the policy in effect at the time of their registration.
