The Red River Ranch near Torrey, Utah is nestled against the red cliffs of Capitol Reef National Park, creating the perfect backdrop to host a trail running event. It's hard to believe that so soon after running among the red rocks you will be cruising singletrack through the pines and aspens along more than a dozen high mountain lakes. After about 20 miles, you'll top out on the Aquarius Plateau, the tallest plateau in North America at over 11,000ft! The trail follows the Great Western Trail along the rim of the plateau for the next 20 miles, offering absolutely majestic views into Capitol Reef National Park and the Grand Staircase National Monument.
The 50 mile option begins with a shuttle to the starting line near Boulder, Utah and finishes at the Red River Ranch in Torrey. The 50K option begins at the Wildcat Ranger Station in between Torrey and Boulder and quickly climbs up onto the top of the plateau, where it links in with the main route at Chokecherry Point and finishes at the Red River Ranch.
Don't underestimate this course or be fooled by the desert backdrop or the fact that you're on a "plateau"- this is a high mountain course which starts at over 7,000ft, quickly climbs to over 11,000ft, and stays at that elevation for nearly half of the distance of the race!
