Course Information

Why Kill Bill? The tough ascent to Oyster Dome originally was referred to by local ultra runners as Kill Bill Hill, not only a reference to its unforgiving climb, but also tribute to a local ultra runner Bill Ball who used the rocky, root layered climb as a course route for Mount Blanchard Ultra. Bill Ball or to some Kill Bill, for better or worse, is largely responsible for more than a few local ultra runners. I remember seeing Kill Bill without shoes the first time, his feet totally wrecked like minced meat. I asked; Bill what the hell happened to your feet? Bill said; I just ran Cascade Crest 100 miler. Before that, I didn’t know 100 mile races existed. So as a tribute to Kill Bill we are resurrecting Kill Bill Hill with a few twists. So come join us and charge up the British Army Trail, you’re a soldier so make it count and look good. Traverse Alternate Incline Trail with it’s solid vertical and sweet canopy covered single track. Explore Blanchard Mountain trails as you traverse the mountainside to Samish Bay, pushing up Kill Bill Hill, stopping at Oyster Dome. Down a freshly shucked oyster (it’s almost mandatory). See the sea and taste gems of the sound, all at the top of Oyster Dome. Because let’s face it, oysters are way better than GU. Will give you a shot of water to chase it down.

Parking is LIMITED

We strongly encourage carpooling. Parking is limited, and a Discover Pass is required. Should you require a Discover Pass, you can purchase one online (please allow a few weeks for delivery) or at various retailers throughout Washington.

Elevation Profile

The 50k course consists of 2 loops of the 25k course. The elevation gain in each loop is 3500', the loss is the same. The course has quite a few tough climbs, long downhills, and a few long easy rolling sections. Overall the course is tough but the views are worth all the effort. This is one of my favorite training areas in the state. I hope you enjoy it as well.

Virtual

Due to the lack of interest in 2025's Oyster Dome Challenge we have decided to make this next year a Virtual event. Sign up, run the course sometime in July, and then we'll ship you a finishers medal and bib when you send us your time. Shirts are available to purchase and will ship with your medal and bib. Shirts must be ordered before July 1st.
