Tackle the Toad

Tackle the Toad is an ultra trail running event that takes place in beautiful Nelson, British Columbia. The race will take runners on an epic journey through lush ancient Cedar Hemlock forests and up into the rocky spruce alpine that towers over Kootenay lake. Iconic Nelson is well known for its eclectic diversity of culture, dining and endless year round outdoor activities. Most of all it is well known for its jaw dropping mountain bike trails that have been built and maintained by the Nelson cycling association. The proceeds of this event will be put into the cycling club so that visitors, future generations and locals can enjoy the trails for years to come.

The 25km Course

The 25km with 1310 meters (4300') of climbing trail race will start at the Morning mountain regional park at 9.00am on Sunday October 3rd 2021. The race starts by climbing Morning mountain through a beautiful interior temperate rain forest, which is truly unique to this region. After ascending world class single track you will descend on old mining trails, which still exist from the days of the silver rush. This will be followed by only a very short section of forest service road before heading up the newest edition to the Trans Canada trail. This majestic trail takes runners across wild creeks and into deep mature Cedar forests while coasting through unparalleled rolling singletrack. The final descent passes old mining relics and follows more epic singletrack down Morning Mountain

Safety disclaimer and mandatory gear

This is wild country, so we assume entrants are aware what to bring to stay safe out there, however we are making bear spray mandatory. There will be field marshals and plenty of aid stations (marked on map), so the only things we strongly recommend is water to get you between the aid stations, plenty of food and snacks, whether its sugar or whole foods we ask you please do not throw any garbage on the trail. This is a cup free event, so bring a water bottle or reusable cup! As for gear we would recommend checking the weather prior to the event to see if layers are required. Hiking poles are allowed and
there will be no drop bags, so you need to bring everything you would need to get you as far as an aid station. We are trying to keep this race as rugged as possible!

Volunteers

The event would not be possible without the help of volunteers, so feel free to email us at travis_hauck@yahoo.com if you wish to help out. Volunteers will be rewarded with free t-shirt and discounted entry to next years event.

Entry fees to our races are 50% refundable and bib numbers can be transferred. In the event of; trail closures, wildlife activity, fire, adverse weather, we will do our best to either re-route and re plan the event. Refunds will be given as 50% race entry off of our 2020 event.
