Cranmore Mountain Race
Set against the dramatic backdrop of the White Mountains in North Conway, the Cranmore Mountain Race is a classic mountain running event that pushes your legs and rewards your grit. This mountain footrace winds up and down the slopes of Cranmore Mountain, offering hard-earned views and a rewarding descent back to the base. As part of the historic USATF-New England Mountain Running Circuit, it attracts dedicated trail runners from across the region.
Course
The course covers roughly 10 kilometers spread over two loops that each climb and descend the mountain. You’ll start at the base area and immediately begin gaining elevation across grassy ski slopes, twist through mountain bike singletrack, and roll along well-graded service roads. The ascent routes test your strength, and the descents demand careful footing and technique, especially since poles and headphones are prohibited.
Each lap includes approximately 1,200 feet of vertical gain, making this mountain run more demanding than a typical trail event of the same distance.
Aid & Support
There is one aid station situated near the start/finish area to serve racers throughout the day. Expect it to offer water and basic fueling options typical for mountain races.
Runner Experience
Race day at Cranmore is energetic, with runners ranging from teens to masters athletes taking on the challenging terrain. The up-and-down format gives spectators plenty of chances to cheer you on — you’ll loop past the base area twice.
The setting at Cranmore Mountain Resort means there’s mountain resort energy in the air and plenty of scenery to enjoy around race services and post-run socializing.
