2019 Santa Barbara 100®
Welcome to the 8th annual Santa Barbara 100®, Southern California’s premier coastal mountain range endurance run with 100 mile and 100-kilometer distance divisions (in addition to the SB50™ and SBER™ Marathons)
The 2019 edition of SBER™ returns after the destructive Thomas Fire and subsequent debris flows that devastated the local community and most of the front country trails system.
This run is made possible through a community wide effort of concerned citizens and volunteer trail groups, working with city and county agencies and Los Padres National Forest to help bring these trails back to life, through community resources and individuals donating their time, energy, and financial support.
Located in the western Transverse Ranges behind Santa Barbara, these mountains with their unique East-West orientation offer sweeping views of both the coast and backcountry. Built up over the millennia and carved out by nature, these rugged mountains with their collection of ridges and canyons offer rich scenery at every turn.
This mountainous terrain combined with October’s capricious climate sets the stage for a technically difficult and demanding endurance run.
Each of the distance options will challenge runners of all caliber and experience. The focused, sustained awareness required to navigate this terrain, with its relentless ascents and descents, can be exhausting and eventually break the ill-prepared. However, the reward for those who can meet the mountain on its own terms, and rise to the challenges it offers, can be equally satisfying.
Runners who have attempted and completed the Santa Barbara 100® routinely rank it as one of the most demanding, yet engaging endurance runs they’ve participated in
If you have any questions, please e-mail your question to rd@sbendurance.run for community support connect with other participants and us at our SBER™ Facebook and SBER™ Twitter pages.
