Event Overview
Celebrating its 11th year, Mountain Ridge Trail Race offers distance options for every trail enthusiast, with 5K, 10K, Half Marathon, and 21-Mile courses set against Colorado’s iconic landscape. The rolling Highlands Ranch hills have made this course a favorite, where every climb rewards you with some of the finest views the front range has to offer.
Starting and Finishing at Mountain Ridge Middle School, Mountain Ridge Trail Race will treat you to 100% dirt and single-track trails that blend challenging yet manageable elevation gains. Whether you’re here for the scenery or to push your limits, Mountain Ridge promises a memorable trail experience.
And for those chasing glory, the Jax Cast Iron Challenge awaits! Winners of the 21-mile course will claim a custom-branded cast iron skillet—a perfect way to celebrate your hard-earned accomplishment. Course Descriptions
Set in the beautiful rolling hills of Highlands Ranch, the Mountain Ridge Trail Race offers courses that showcase the natural splendor of Colorado’s front range. With a mix of dirt trails and paved paths, each route presents its own unique challenge, elevation gains, and rewarding vistas. From beginner-friendly 5Ks to endurance-testing 21-mile distances, runners of all levels can experience the invigorating terrain and expansive views that define this stunning trail race.
21 Mile Course
The 21-Mile course at Mountain Ridge combines dirt trails (90%) and paved bike paths (10%) that winds you through the rolling hills of Highlands Ranch. With a steady climb from Mile 1 reward you with sweeping front range views at a max elevation of 6,412 feet. With 2,106 feet of elevation gain and four well-placed aid stations to keep you fueled, this "Y" out-and-back adventure offers a true test of endurance amidst Colorado's iconic landscapes.
Half-Marathon Course
The Half-Marathon course at Mountain Ridge, where 90% dirt trails and 10% bike paths takes runners on a tour of Highlands Ranch’s stunning foothills. The course’s Mile 1 climb sets the tone, rewarding runners with expansive front range views from 6,412 feet at its highest point. With 1,345 feet of elevation gain and three aid stations along this "Y" out-and-back course, it’s the perfect mix of elevation and scenery for an unforgettable Colorado trail running experience.
10 KM Course
The 10K course at Mountain Ridge offers an energizing mix of dirt trails (90%) and paved bike paths (10%) that wind through Highlands Ranch’s picturesque landscape. With a challenging climb right from the start and another ascent at Mile 2, you’ll rise to 6,369 feet and be rewarded with sweeping views. Covering 600 feet of elevation gain, this out-and-back route features two well-placed aid stations, making it a dynamic, scenic test for trail runners of all levels.
5 KM Course
The 5K course at Mountain Ridge is the perfect introduction to trail running, offering a scenic out-and-back journey through 90% dirt trails with a touch of paved path. Starting with a gentle climb, this route gives you a taste of elevation as you reach a high point of 6,369 feet, all while surrounded by the natural beauty of Highlands Ranch. With 374 feet of elevation gain, it’s a manageable challenge that rewards new and seasoned runners alike with fresh air, rolling hills, and an unforgettable trail experience.
