Festivus: For the Rest of Us

Let’s get the holiday season started with the 2nd annual event and the longest trail race in the North East Florida area! And if you guessed we are Seinfeld fans then you would be correct and our charismatic race director Mike Martinez most definitely will have you “cracking up" with his one liners and megaphone shout outs!! We like to have fun and follow the principles of Rule 62: Don’t take yourself too damn seriously!

Parking / Tent Set Up

We will have parking in the main parking lot as well as inside the complex itself where you will be able to back up your vehicle pretty much either right on the loop or just a few feet away, we have a huge infield grassy area to do this, we ask that it be utilized for the 50 milers and the 37.5 milers since they will need to access their vehicles more then the others. We will reserve areas right by the start / finish area for those that want to set up a tent or personal aid station area this will be on a first come / first serve basis we will have this area roped off and will have parking personnel direct you accordingly.

Endorsements

This race is Trail Sister Approved!

Location

The address to the venue is 2A Live Oak Lane Middleburg, Fla 32068 Most GPS will take you directly to the location ( Sandridge Trail ) but some will take you to a subdivision which is incorrect. It is on a dirt road. I will give extensive directions in all of the race emails leading up to the race because we also have a #wontgetlost policy while driving to the race :)

Amenities

There are 2 free standing bathrooms with running water and sink and a mirror that is directly on the course ( we will also add a porta potty and some extra rocks so no one would question about how " soft " we are lol ) as well as a large pavilion with several picnic tables and 2 bbq grills and a huge parking lot which is but a mere 100 feet from the start/ finish line. There is also a Wal Mart and a Hampton Inn hotel 2 miles from the trailhead. Also, if any of you want to camp overnight there is a Hammock Campground area that is 5-10 mins from the trailhead.

Course Description

We will be doing a beautiful 4.17 mile non-technical and flat-ish loop, so you will either run 12/9/6/3 or 2 loops filled with long leaf pines, palmettos and various wildlife (deer, birds, squirrels, NO BEARS) and 2 nice foot bridges as well. The 50 milers will run the first hour in darkness and will need a headlamp, all runners still on the course after 5pm will be required to have a headlamp if starting a new loop, we will make sure to have great course markings and it will be illuminated. Also, we will allow drop downs (example: if you are registered for the 50 miler and you think you might not reach the 13 hour cut off you can "drop down" to the 37.5 division and still get your medal for finishing and an official result) in each division on race day, however, you will not be eligible for an award in that division you drop down to.

CUT OFFS: 14 hrs for the 50 miler, 13 hrs for the 37.5 miler, 12 hrs for the 25 miler , and 7 hrs for the 12.5 miler, no cut off for the 14k

RD POLICY : We have a #wontgetlost policy that we take very seriously, because we feel as if you are family when you run one of our events and the RD Mike Martinez (Sober Sombrero Runner) if you somehow get lost so we INTENTIONALLY over mark the course because we care about your safety first and foremost!!

Aid Stations

This will be a CUPLESS race you will need to bring a handheld water bottle or hydration pack. We will have a main aid station at the start / finish line with water and skratch (orange flavor) as well as HOT FOOD such as bacon, cheese quesadillas and bacon/cheese as well, vegan chili, burgers and brats/sausage links and I will provide my patented Chorizo and Eggs Breakfast burritos! We will also probably order some pizza at some point as well. We will also have the staple aid station food/drinks as well at the main aid station. We will also have an unmanned aid station at the 2-mile mark with an igloo of water which we will replenish throughout the day.

Swag

We will have custom made medals from the Ultra talented Brie Los with Wicked Skins Athletics as well as OA awards ( Masters Divisions as well) and the HIGHLY COVETED SLOW A$$ Award for the DFL because EVERY RUNNER MATTERS!! We will also have Festivus Poles for 2nd and 3rd in each age group for each race and other giveaways yet to be determined but if anyone knows the RD Mike he is very generous and is known for just giving away random items at no cost to his runners.
