The Old Dominion is a measured loop trail through the Massanutten Mountains, Shenandoah River Valley and Fort Valley Virginia, with 14 significant climbs, and 14,000 feet of gain. The course is planned as a fair test of endurance. Running 100 miles cross-country, in one day, is a worthy challenge.
The Old Dominion is one race in the Grand Slam of Ultrarunning series.
The Old Dominion 100 Mile Endurance Run is more than just a race. It is more than just four marathons run back to back. It is more than an event in the yearly schedule. It is the Old Dominion. What does that mean? The Old Dominion stands for tradition - the tradition of each individual against a difficult course, hot and humid weather and the 24 hour time limit. It is the people that have run it in the past and will run it in the future. And it is the people that help with the race every year. It is the Old Dominion.
The Old Dominion course takes you over all types of terrains. Runners will traverse over pavement, gravel roads, single track trails, ATV trails, logging roads, rocks, streams, some more gravel, and mud. This is not a solely trail race- come prepare to handle road and trails. Test your ability to be able to turn your legs over a wide variety of terrain in one day. Runners will climb 14,000'.
There is a 24 hour cut off to get the coveted silver buckle and 28 hours to finish.
2021 Event Information
We are using a new Ultrasignup method this year that will log your registrations in the order of the time you sign up; but, we will not charge your credit card until a later date. This means you will initially be on the waitlist. We are going to wait until the Spring to charge your card, when we have more information regarding COVID-19.
Local time: 11:22 AM
The entry list won't be visible to you on Ultrasignup so we will post a current entry and waitlist periodically on the Old Dominion website, starting ~4 Dec. The 2021 entry list includes qualified runners from last year's cancelled race. Capacity will be 100. And as always, we will have openings for qualified Grand Slammers.
