About Rock 'N The Knob Trail Challenge: PA's Highest Trail Race

Rock’ N The Knob – Pennsylvania’s Highest Trail Race

September 16, 2017: Allegheny Trailrunners Inc. is proud to present Rock’n The Knob – PA’s Highest Trail Race at Blue Knob presented by Subaru and Stuckey Subaru.

NEWS FROM THE ATR HOME OFFICE: Rock ‘N The Knob’s 10k is on the “short list” to becoming the US Track and Field’s 10K National Trail Championship for 2018! This means runners from across the country will be coming to Central PA to what may become one of the best courses in the nation!
FOR THE 10K: We are finalizing the details for a new 10K course worthy of a national championship. For 2017, runners will be running this new course as a “rehearsal” for the possible championship in 2018.
FOR THE 22 MILE COURSE: We may need to “go all in” for the 10K course for the championship in 2018. This means that 2017 might be the last year for the 22 mile course. So this could be the last chance to do the 22 mile challenge we premiered last year.

The race will offer two courses: a 10K course and a 22-mile challenging course for the more experienced. Last years race, runners from 20 states and every section of PA signed up for this event! The courses were changed in 2016: the 5.5 mile was extended to a 10K with the additional mileage at the end. The 22-mile course eliminates Whysong Road (paved) with a new course (all trail) from mile 7 to 14. We also added a couple more challenging climbs and descents like the Scramble Climb at the end.

22 MILE INFO: Runners will start from the Clubhouse at the Blue Knob All Seasons Resort. Racers will then conquer the ski slopes, enjoying beautiful vistas along the route. The 22-mile racers will then be linking with the Lost Turkey Trail to begin their assault on the State Park side of the mountain. The 22-mile runners zigzag up and down the mountain accumulating over 9,500 ft. of elevation change! This race will be one of the most challenging in the area, putting even the most hardened trail runner to the test.

10K RACE: The new course will be more challenging – course fitting for a national championship. But, more importantly we want to have a lot of variety. Winding singletrack yet plenty of passable areas… Fast downhills to test your mettle… Heart stopping uphills… A beautiful eye candy… We want the course to showcase the best of what Pennsylvania trail running can offer. More details of the course are forthcoming.

NOTE: Unlike year’s past, the 10K and 22-miler will share only a minimum of the same course.

Sorry, no refunds or bibs transfers.

START TIME: 9:30 for the 22-mile race. 10:30 for the 10K race.

In Summary:
-- At over 3,100 feet above sea level, it is Pennsylvania’s highest race.
-- A 10K or 22-mile options. Both are more technical (rocky) than our little sister, the Dirty Kiln Trail Race.
-- More that 4,500 feet of climbing or 9,000+ feet of elevation change in the 22-mile race.
-- Lodging packages available at Blue Knob All-Seasons Resort, wake up feet from the start and finish.
-- Rock N’ The Knob technical shirts and metal bottle openers as finisher medals.
-- Post-race food including hot dogs, burgers, pizza and more.
