https://ultrasignup.com/register.aspx?did=65791

4th Annual Holston River Endurance Challenge!! This is a tough event but I guarantee that you will have a great time. Run, walk or crawl around a crushed gravel road during one of the hottest days of the year!! If the sun is not your friend, sign up for the night run. Only complete laps will count toward total mileage in each timed event. There will be a course change this year at HREC. Due to recent construction at the campground, the course will be closer to 1.4 miles. The event will no longer be USATF Certified (but who are we kidding...nobody is setting any world records on this course!!) Headlamps/flashlights will be required to run through the night. Reflective tape and/or glow sticks will be placed along the course to help direct runners at night, as well.
**NEW FOR 2018** 3 Hour on Saturday. 2 options AM and PM run. Choose during registration.

Course/Aid Station

The 1.4 mile course loop is slightly flat with two small climbs each loop. There is minimal elevation gain per lap (It will feel like more elevation as time goes by) and consists of gravel/dirt roads, some grassy areas and a bit of asphalt. The road is wide enough to allow for easy passing. There will be one Aid Station at the end of the loop, near the timing station. This aid station will be like a fully stocked buffet, just ask previous runners! There will be the usual ultra type food/drinks, ie water, electrolyte drink, energy gels, cookies, fruit, potato chips, chocolate, pretzels, pb&j, broth, etc. There will be pancakes, bacon, pizza and Sno-Cones throughout the weekend. The grill will be up and running all weekend. If you have special dietary needs/electrolyte drinks, please plan to bring your own food, but let me know as well. Runners will be allowed to set up personal supplies at their tent site or their car. There will be a bath house with flush toilets and showers near the Aid Station.

Packet Pick-up/Check-in

Packet Pick-up for all Friday Night runners will be on Friday Aug 3 from 12 PM- 5PM. You can set up camp anytime on Friday (you no longer have to wait until Noon). You will be allowed to change events at Check-in/Packet Pick-up, but after 5PM, no drop downs/switches will be allowed. Saturday morning runners will need to be checked in by 7:30AM. Saturday night runners can check in anytime on Saturday until 7PM.

Start Time

The start time will be 8PM Friday Aug 3 for the 100 mile, 36 hour, and 24 hour runners. The 100 mile race has a 36 hour cutoff time. The 6 hour, and 12 hour runners will have 3 start options in 2018- 8PM Friday and 8AM Saturday and 8PM Saturday (Saturday runners will choose start time during registration). The 6H and 12H 8PM and 8AM races will be 3 separate events, so you will only be competing against the runners in your start time, not all 6 hour or 12 hour participants. Due to the low number of Saturday 3 Hour participants, the 8AM start time will have results posted with 8PM start time.

Timing System

There will be using an electronic chip timing system at Holston River Endurance Challenge. Each runner will be assigned a shoe chip or ankle strap. Each time the runner passes through the timing station, the lap split will be recorded and the total mileage will be displayed as well as total running time. Each bib will be color coded to identify which event you are running. Runners will be able to see their split times, total mileage, and total running time as they pass through the timing station.

Pacers/Safety Runners

Pacers/Safety Runners will be allowed to run/walk with the runners. Only one pacer/safety runner at a time on the course per runner, although you can have many pacers to come spend time with you. Due to liability issues, each pacer must check-in before running on the course, so the timing tent will be able to identify the pacer. Please respect this rule and do not have more than one pacer on the course. This is a 1.4 mile loop and there will be many runners on the course. Also the pacer needs to be aware of other runners and move to the side when event runners are passing. If a pacer hinders any other runner's progress during the race, I reserve the right to remove that pacer off the course. Pacers will be allowed to eat and drink at the aid station. Pacers, please do not cross the timing mat at the timing station.

Camping/Parking

Camping/Parking for the whole weekend is included in your registration fee. Your family/crew can join you as their camping is included in your fee. This will be for primitive tent sites. If you plan to bring an RV, please reserve a site and you can pay RV site fee upon check-in. The RV site is $40/night and includes water and electric.

Venue Info

The race will take place next to Holston River Brewing Company.

Race Swag

Deadline to order shirts July 13, 2018. This year, in order to have lower race fees, the t-shirt will be offered as an option to buy for $15. It will be a soft Triblend Unisex T-shirt - (sizes X-Small to XX-Large). This shirt is, by far, my favorite shirt to wear. There will be a Finisher's Award for all who complete the event.
100 Mile Buckle for 100 Mile event finishers. (Buckles available for purchase for 24 hour and 36 hour runners who run 100 miles). You can pre-purchase or purchase at race.

Other Info

No refunds, transfers or deferments on this event. I donate all proceeds of HREC to charity- last year I donated to St. Jude, local animal shelters, Salvation Army, Hurricane Relief Funds, National Stroke Association, as well as the local Foster Children Associations in the Tri-Cites area.
