Course Description

The start/finish is located at Davis Creek Regional Park Campground. This 10.5 mile journey to the top of Slide Mountain has over 5000' of climbing. The course begins with a gradual rise that traverses the lower contour of the mountain. This introduction doesn't last long before the climbing gets steeper and more technical especially after crossing Ophir Creek just a couple of miles into the trail. After crossing the creek, runners will continue uphill past intersections for Rock Lake and Upper Price Lake staying on the Ophir Creek Trail. Once above Upper Price Lake, the climbing starts to become more moderate and eventually easing just before connecting with the Tahoe Rim Trail. The TRT will take runners across Tahoe Meadows up to the TRT trail head parking area along Mt. Rose highway. The course then continues across the parking area onto the Tahoe Meadows Interpretive Trail leading everyone to Mt. Rose Campground. There is a brief section of pavement through the campground before accessing a dirt road that climbs steeply up the backside of Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe to the top of Slide Mountain at 9698'. Here at the top, the views will take your breathe away if the elevation already hasn't! Runners then retrace their steps back to the finish at Davis Creek Campground. This is a challenging trail with some very steep and technical sections that make it difficult to run, even downhill.

Event registration is $75, $85 after June 17. Online registration closes at midnight Wednesday July 5th. Onsite registration at packet pick up or race day is $95. Race day registration and runner check-in is from 5:00AM-5:45AM. Race start is 6:00AM.

Event Called 2017

After serious consideration, we unfortunately will have to cancel this years event. I have spent the past few days scouting the upper sections of trail for this course and there is still a considerable amount of snow in the higher elevations. We have been having warmer temps which have led to a substantial amount of snow melt in the past few weeks but there is still 6-10 feet of snow within the trees along the meadows. The difficult section will be from just above Upper Price Lake to the meadows where the canyon narrows and the terrain gets steep. It is all snow that is not going away within the next 2 weeks. The ability to stay on course and maintain solid footing is near impossible. For safety reasons, we are going to have to pull the plug on this race this year. I sincerely apologize but I feel it is necessary to get the message out now 2 weeks in advance rather than try and wait it out in hopes of better conditions and then cancel last minute. In fact, I believe that the conditions will only get more dire and more impassable with continued snow melt along this section of course and not be safe until a more complete snow melt has occurred. This is a difficult message to write. This is a big rugged climb that has lots of features that I wanted to showcase and share with everyone. It's just a bummer that it is not going to happen this year. So I'll present you with 4 options: 1) you can elect to transfer you entry into our next Tahoe Dirt & Vert Series event which is the Capital Climb on August 5th; 2) transfer this entry over to one of our other events this year; 3) put it towards next years running of Creek2Peak, or; 4) get refunded less a $35 administrative costs fee. Please let me know what you would like to do. Again I am terribly sorry for the inconvenience.

Start/Finish location

Aid Stations

The plan is to have two aid stations out on the course, one about mid-way up the mountain and the other at the summit. Aid stations will be supplied with sweet and salty snack type food as well as electrolyte tablets and some hardier real food resembling an ultra style aid station. A/S's will also be water only, no sports drink and no cups. So please carry your favorite sports drink with you.

Race Day Check-in

All runners must check in prior to the race start at the campground on race morning even if you have already picked up your bib# at packet pick-up. This is to ensure an accurate headcount to how many and who is out on the course. If you don't check-in you don't officially start which means you don't officially finish and I would hate for you not to get any credit for enduring and completing this challenge!. Runner check-in is from 5:00AM-5:45AM. Pre-race briefing starts at 5:50AM with race start at 6:00AM.

There will be awards for top 3 overall M&F finishers and age division winners only. Age divisions are M&F: <13, 13-15, 16-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+.
Currently working on finisher awards for all runners. Will most likely be a professionally taken photo from out on the course and a free local brew.

We will be using the group camping area on the north end of this facility. There is limited parking at this location but there is an overflow parking a short walk away. We need to pack everyone in as best we can so please follow instructions from the event volunteers directing traffic. Please plan on arriving early to give yourself plenty of time to park, check-in, and get organized.
