Course Description

UPDATE SEPTEMBER 3, 2019: Since the days are getting shorter and the sunrise is a little later this time of year, we decided to push back the official race start by 30 minutes. The new race start will be at 6:30am.
UPDATE MARCH 21, 2019: This event has been rescheduled to Sept. 7, 2019 due to snow pack. We plan on keeping the new date to the first weekend after Labor Day weekend in the future so we don't run into the same issue again following a big winter. Thanks for your understanding.
The start/finish is located at Davis Creek Regional Park. This 10.5 mile journey to the top of Slide Mountain has over 5900' of climbing. The course begins with a gradual rise that traverses the lower contour of the mountain. This introduction doesn't last long before the climbing gets steeper and more technical especially after crossing Ophir Creek just a couple of miles into the trail. After crossing the creek, runners will continue uphill past intersections for Rock Lake and Upper Price Lake staying on the Ophir Creek Trail. Once above Upper Price Lake, the climbing starts to become more moderate and eventually easing when connecting with the Lower Meadows Loop Trail. Runner will turn right onto the Lower Meadows Loop Trail which is a mostly flat section of trail for 1.6 miles until Mt. Rose Hwy. and the first aid station. The route will then take runners up Mt. Rose Hwy. for ~1.5 miles until the very summit where the course will turn right onto a dirt road that climbs steeply up the backside of Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe to the top of Slide Mountain at 9698'. Here at the top, the views will take your breathe away if the elevation already hasn't! Runners then retrace their steps back to the finish at Davis Creek Campground. This is a challenging trail with some very steep and technical sections that make it difficult to run, even downhill.

Tahoe Dirt & Vert Series

The Tahoe Dirt & Vert Series is just that, trail running to summits overlooking Lake Tahoe with lots of vert to get there! The series consists of 3 runs in 4 months. The Genoa Peak Madathon on June 1st is race #1, is 25 miles long, consists of over 6700' of elevation gain, starts in downtown Genoa at 4806' and summits Genoa Peak at 9150'. The second event, Capital Climb is on August 3rd and has over 5500' of climbing in 23 miles. This event starts and finishes downtown Carson City and summits the top of Snow Valley Peak at 9218'. The third and last run of the series is Creek2Peak on September 7th and is approximately 21 miles long with over 5000' of climbing. The start/finish is at Davis Creek Regional Park and climbs to the summit of Slide Mountain at 9698'. The second aid station will be at the top of the course at the summit of Slide Mountain. It is about 3 miles and 1100' of elevation change between the 2 aid stations. Aid stations will be supplied with sweet and salty snack type food as well as electrolyte tablets and some hardier real food resembling an ultra style aid station. Race Day Check-in
