2021 Update

Update 1/13/21 Invitations to waitlisted runners have expired. Registration is now open with limited spots remaining.

Update 1/4/21 We have received the green light for this event and look forward to seeing you in February!
Waitlisted runners will be invited off the waitlist in order of registration: first come first serve. Upon receipt of the invitation, runners will have one week to confirm entry or their spot will go to the next in line. Please be sure to check all spam and junk folders.

The 2021 event will host the 100K distance on Saturday, February 13th, and the 60K on Sunday, February 14th. Race start times will be adjusted to account for wave starts for both the 100K and 60K distances. These wave starts will consist of no more than 50 people per wave spread out on the track, starting in 15-minute increments. Masks, a wellness check, and social distancing will all be required. We will post the assigned wave times for runners as we near the race. Waves will be determined by projected finish times in order to better spread the field and reduce passing on course.

Elite Runners: If you intend to compete for the 2021 Western States Golden Tickets you must be in the first waves of the 100K race. Spaces are limited and not guaranteed. Please fill out the form HERE for consideration.

Black Canyon Ultras

Experience the beauty of winding Sonoran Desert trails in the shadow of the Bradshaw Mountains. The course is point-to-point with net elevation loss.. but do not be fooled: this is a tough and taxing course with the majority of elevation gain coming the second half of the course. Challenge yourself in 2021 and join us for the 7th annual Black Canyon 100K! The course runs along the non-motorized Black Canyon Trail (a National Recreation Trail) featuring a mixture of single track trail, jeep roads, and pieces of an old stagecoach route. The Black Canyon Trail is located on Bureau of Land Management land and is overseen by the Black Canyon Trail Coalition. In addition, we offer a point to point 60K starting in Spring Valley and finishing at Black Canyon City.

Race Information

Anything else you may need to know is located on our Black Canyon Ultras website! Information on the website includes: course maps, aid station chart, pacer & crew information, race perks, and more.

Charity Bib Program

This year we are excited to offer runners an opportunity to give back to the Black Canyon Trail Coalition, the organization dedicated to the growth, maintenance, and promotion of the Black Canyon Trail system. Our hope is to continue to support the BCTC in their amazing efforts through trail work and annual contributions from the very runners who love, run, and enjoy the Black Canyon Trail. Therefore, 100% of the proceeds from a "Charity 100K" registration will go directly to the BCTC and contributing supporters will be assigned a bib numbered 2-11 in recognition of their support. Runners or organizations may fund raise or directly contribute and any charity bib is transferrable. For more information on the the Black Canyon Trail Coalition, please visit our website where you can also download the mail-in entry form.
**Send a main-in form and check for this entry to avoid automatic tax calculation that happens when you register online**

Cupless Race

We are so lucky to make the outdoors our passion and we want to continue to keep the beautiful trails we enjoy beautiful and free from trash and wrappers. In our continued effort to reduce our races footprint and preserve the trails we love, 2021 Black Canyon Ultras will be a cupless event.

What does that mean? There will be no paper cups at the aid stations at this race. Runners will be responsible for carrying their own container to refill along the way. UltrAspire reusable cups may be purchased with registration or on race day OR we encourage you to bring your own. Grab a cup, a hydration vest, pouch, or water bottle and we will fill it at each aid station along the way. We ask you to help us in our efforts by preparing for a cup-free race day and thank you in advance for being good stewards of the trail. Also new to this year, we have paired with a Terracycle company to help collect and recycle gu packets, energy bar wrappers, and other generally non-recyclable materials that we find every day in the running community. Look for our TerraCycle containers at each aid station.

Golden Ticket Race

The top two (2) female and top two (2) male finishers in each individual race will automatically qualify for entry into the 2021 Western States 100 event. In the case that the first, or second place participant is already in Western States (or decides to opt out), the automatic bid will slide to third place, fourth place, and subsequently down to fifth place as needed (no places below fifth will be accepted). Runners will receive their invitation via email and have two weeks from the qualifying race to complete the registration, including paying the entry fee. There are no deferments or transfers.
