This Event Took Place Sun. Apr 14, 2019
The 40 mile is mostly trail with some dirt road sections. The first quarter is gentle uphill, second quarter is gentle downhill, third quarter starts with a gentle up before a couple of long, 2-mile uphill grinders, and the final quarter is gentle downhill (with some sweet views!), making for a fast finish. Mud is very likely, and snowy sections are possible. The 20 mile is gentle uphill for the first half, and gentle downhill for the second half. Upon reaching the ridge, there are beautiful views of many of the Central Oregon Cascades peaks.
There is a mid-race time cutoff for 40 milers. At approximately mile 25, where the 40 milers turn off the long, straight road to run their second big loop, you need to be there by 12:45 p.m. That is 4 hours and 45 min. for regular starters and 5 hours and 45 min. for early starters. If you are a 40 miler and arrive there after 12:45 p.m., volunteers will direct you straight to the finish with the 20 milers. If you get there before 12:45 p.m., you will be directed to the 40 mile loop. Aid Station 6 will have a 2:00 p.m. cutoff. Aid Station 7 will have a 3:45 p.m. cutoff.
Absolute finish cutoff for 40 milers is 5 p.m. This is a 15 min/mi average for 40 mile early starters. For 20 milers, we ask that you try to be done in about 6 hours, which is an 18 min/mi average. Please realize these cutoff times are for the benefit of the many Rumble volunteers, so they aren’t out there longer than what is reasonable. Thank you for your understanding on this.
