The Old Glory Ultra Trail Runs take you through the beautiful Appalachian Mountains and crosses the Virginia/West Virginia border several times over the duration of the course. The course is mostly double track, some single track, and only ~1.5 miles on gravel road.
The course winds through wooded mountains and the trail has numerous stream crossings. Some sections of the course are "buttery" while others are more technical. There will be 5 (possibly 6) aid stations, well stocked, and there to keep you moving.
There's camping available on site and it is sure to be a good time. It is on Veteran's Day weekend for a reason - we want to honor our veterans. All veterans and active military: Please take notice of the discounts available to you.
All runners get a piece of Old Glory headgear (trucker hat or wrap, depending on the distance). All finishers will receive an OGTR finisher's patch with velcro backing.
Brett, our friend at East Coast Beast Coast Running, put together a little video of a course preview we did with some friends. Watch the video to get a glimpse of some of the course...
Note: This run was on December 30th - race day won't be quite as cold as it looks in the video!
Old Glory is cupless.
In an effort to be more sustainable and be friendly towards the environment, the Old Glory Ultra and Half Marathon is a cupless race. All runners will need to carry their own reusable cup throughout the race to use at aid stations. If you do not have one already, you have the option to purchase one of our TrailAdventure cups (a Hydrapak SpeekCup) when registering and it will be waiting for you at packet pick-up.
Partnering with TAPS
TrailAdventure is proud to partner with the TAPS (Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors) for the 2019 racing season. TAPS' mission is to offer compassionate care to those grieving the loss of a military loved one. Since 1994, TAPS has provided comfort and hope 24/7 through a national peer support network and connection to grief resources, all at no cost to surviving families and loved ones.
Local time: 4:05 AM
Racers wishing to raise funds for TAPS during the Old Glory races (Ultra, Half Marathon, 10K, and Relay) should follow the following procedures: (1) register for the race right here on UltraSignup and (2) sign up with TAPS for fundraising (http://team.taps.org/site/TR?fr_id=1430&pg=entry).
Racers wishing to memorialize or honor a fallen service member will be provided, by TAPS, an "honor bib" featuring the name and photo of a fallen service memory. Please indicate on your Old Glory Registration via the follow-up questions if you would like to run your race in MEMORY or in HONOR of a friend or family member.
If you do not have someone in mind, but would still like to run in memory or honor of someone just let us know and TAPS will link you to the friends and family of a fallen hero. TAPS will match you with family and friends about a month prior to race day, and honor bibs will be available at packet pick up.
