The Nipmuck South is part of the Blue-Blazed Trail Running Series. This is a fun way to run a series of races that share this common distinction. The Soapstone and Nipmuck Marathon are two of the races in this series that are also hosted by the Shenipsit Striders. To learn more visit the website: https://blueblazedtrailrunningseries.org/
Race time limit
To have your time officially recorded, you must complete the race within four hours. This should be enough time for any runner to finish. We are setting this limit to avoid walkers from coming in later and delaying timing officials and volunteers.
The race is an out-and-back covering a distance of 14.1 mi. The course has some interesting trail variations over beautiful terrain, with several small bridge crossings, a climb to a 50 ft cliff, fields, and woods. The race starts at Mansfield Hollow State Park and winds its way to Old Turnpike Road (off Route 44). There are three road crossings that will be staffed by volunteers from the Mansfield Fire Department. The race has a new loop approaching the turn around (due to busy beavers).
Use small information (i) website link above. The Shenipsit Striders site has links to a map of the course and the park website (which has directions to the race area). Also, there is a small map link above.
