Race Wave Starts

We will NOT be allowing crews or spectators on site for the 2020 race.

All races will consist of wave starts of no more than 15 people, spread out within the starting corral and masked up. A temperature wellness check will be admitted in order to be admitted to the active participant zone where the race will begin.
The start times indicate Wave 1 for each of the respective distances. Waves will be every five minutes until we have started all runners. The actual wave assignments that tell you exactly when you'll be starting will be posted as soon as we've finished that. Start times, cutoffs, pacer, drop bag, and crew information has been updated on our website and is important to review prior to race day.

50 Mile Wave 1 Start: 6:00 AM
50 Km Wave 1 Start: 6:45 AM
25 Km Wave 1 Start: 8:00 AM
10 Mile Wave 1 Start: 9:00 AM
5 Mile Wave 1 Start: 10:00 AM

Event Approved!

Update - 11/3: We did receive approval for the 2020 McDowell Mountain Frenzy for all distances and we are opening up credit card processing for registrations so when you register, your card will be charged and you'll be added directly to the entrant's list. All current participants and waitlist runners have been emailed and invited to register.

10/20: We have received approval from the Scottsdale Sonoran Preserve to have our 50Km and 50 mile distances run through their section of the preserve on December 5th. This is a great first step towards approval.
New levels of permitting through Maricopa County (where this race is held) are under way and that has caused a delay in receiving confirmation for Frenzy. Once we hear back from the Department of Health as well as the Planning and Development office from Maricopa County, we are hopeful the parks & recreation department will be able to approve our permit pretty quickly. Unfortunately, we don't have a date on these approvals but do appreciate your patience as we navigate these new processes.

In the meantime, all credit card charges have been paused during the registration process. This means that you can sign up for your respective distance risk-free. Once we are 100% sure the event will happen, we'll send you an invite to register from Ultrasignup. When you accept the invite, your credit card is charged and you are officially placed on the entrant's list. You are able to decline the invite at that point as well at no cost.

9/28: We are continuing to work with Maricopa County on permitting approvals for this event. Additional/new guidelines are being reviewed by the county parks and recreation department. An update for us (and then you) is expected around October 7th.
In the meantime, as you sign up for Frenzy you are added to the waitlist. Once we are 100% sure the event will take place, you'll receive an invite to register from Ultrasignup. At that point, when you accept the invite, your credit card will be charged and you'll be officially added to the entrant's list. It's essentially our way of offering a risk free way for you to get your name on the list now rather than waiting and possibly not being able to race if/when our capacity restrictions are provided to us. Your credit card will only be charged when you accept the invitation to register when that time comes.
In mid-October we will go before the board to discuss the approval that will allow our 50Km and 50 mile distances to utilize the Sonoran Preserve.

Thank you again for your patience and continued support!

This event is NOT sold out.

Due to the uncertainty with COVID-19 we have made registration for this event a waitlist only because we feel it is irresponsible to continue to collect registration fees. We have no plans to cancel or reschedule this event and the event is not sold out as this page suggests. If the race goes on as planned, you will receive an email from Ultrasignup asking you to accept the invitation to register for this race. No money will be collected until you accept this registration. Please continue to check back for updates!
