State Park Series
State Park Series (SPS)
Welcome to Trail Maniacs State Park Series. When we first started Trail Maniacs I wanted to offer a race series that showcased the awesome trails in our state parks. Wow, I had no idea Trail Maniacs would grow this much and be so amazing! For 2017 we decided to keep our courses fresh and we are changing things up a little bit, well a lot actually! We are excited to announce that we are changing our race distances and will now offer a 10k course, 25k course and to challenge all of you ultra-distance folks, each state park race will offer a 50k course! While the 50k distance is challenging, if you have ever wanted to “dip your toes” into that distance these races will be perfect! Most of you are familiar with Trail Maniac races - we don’t give away finisher medals at each race; but we will give you a great race course, tons of free prize giveaways, an amazing post-race meal including adult beverages, and our series finale offers the most unique award that you will ever receive! 2017 is only getting better! Don’t worry if you cannot participate in the series though, each of our races offers a unique challenge, a ton of swag, and the post-race is worth the price of admission. Pick the race that fits your schedule best and we look forward to meeting you. If you are new to trail running start with the 10k course and go from there – c’mon its just 6-ish miles, what could possible go wrong?!
SPS is a trail run point series and will include the 10k, 25k and 50k distances. We will count your best 4 out of 5 races in the series. SPS will include five state parks from two states (Idaho and Washington) one race per month from May thru October. SPS will have over $6,000.00 in prizes for the overall series. These prizes are possible because of our great sponsors REI Spokane, Altra, Nathan, Clif Bar, Nuun and special thanks to our local running store Fleet Feet Coeur d Alene. And the series is a part of the Trail Runner Magazine trophy series. Come stay the weekend, each of the state parks offer camping and showers!
For information about our fat ass runs and other non-SPS events subscribe to us on Facebook. Our 2017 SPS Race Series calendar will include:
5/20/17 SPS #1 Farragut State Park
6/17/17 SPS #2 Heyburn State Park
7/22/17 SPS #3 Mt. Spokane State Park
9/9/17 SPS #4 Riverside State Park – Bowl & Pitcher area
10/28/17 SPS #5 Halloween at Hell’s Gate State Park
SPS #2 Heyburn
Welcome to our second stop for the SPS series, Heyburn State Park. Heyburn has miles of single track and you will see all the best sections. Each of the courses will be on single track and of course I will find as many "Dam-it-Dave hill's" that I can! Don't forget to smile, you never know where I have a camera.
Come stay the weekend, Friday evening we will have a potluck at the Lower Chatcolet picnic area (I will supply the pasta including gluten free). Reservations are needed for camping at this time of the year. After the race on Saturday join us for our legendary "tail-gate" parties! We will be serving up a taco bar, if you have a sweet tooth no need to worry I got your back! And how about some adult beverages from Slate Creek Brewery and Daft Badger Brewing, I don't think I would have a race without them! Stick around and cheer on all the finishers.
Here is a little bit about the course.
10K is the same as last year. Click here for the 10K course
25K is the same as last year but we added in the Indian Cliff trail (3 extra miles and more climbing.) Click here for the 25K map
50K is an out and back course using the 25K route and with over 7400’ of elevation gain you will earn that beer at the finish. Click here for the 50K course
