COURSE

The course is a 400 meter track at Valley Center Intermediate School in Valley Center, KS at 737 N Meridian, Valley Center, KS 67147. The track is located to the west/behind the school. Fast and flat! How many miles can you run? It’s up to you! The event will be chip-timed by the Timer Guys. Details on that below.

This course will be certified and eligible for state records! We will also apply to have it be a USATF sanctioned event.

We will change directions every 4 hours.

To receive a finisher award, you will need to complete a 50K in your event. IF YOU CAN'T COMPLETE A 50K IN 6 HOURS AND WANT A FINISHER AWARD, SIGN UP FOR THE 12 HOUR RACE.
Keep in mind: 4 laps = .99 mile or 1600 meters and 1609 meters = 1 mile.

AID STATION

The aid station in 2024 will be potluck style or BYOA. We will provide ice and water, you bring your own aid and something to share with others. We will have a couple of tables for shared items. The aid station and runner staging area will be on the opposite side of the track from the start/finish line. You're welcome to stop at your chair/aid as often or as little as you'd like.

CREW INFO

The course will be more crowded this year because it's on a track. Therefore, pacers will NOT be allowed for 2024. Tents and small pop-up tents and canopies ARE allowed on the infield. Dogs can be kept in the parking lot area, but will NOT be allowed in the track area for 2024.

TRACK ETIQUETTE

We will adopt rules from similar races. With so many runners going for PRs or even state/national records, we want to avoid collisions and conflict. All runners must follow these rules:

-ALWAYS hug the inside lane if you are running at a reasonable pace relative to other runners. Never try to predict another runner coming from behind or make room for them on the inside because they are going faster than you.
-Leave room for other runners to pass in the outside of lane 1, not all the way in lane 2.
-Runners passing from behind will always move to the outside of lane 1 to make a pass.
-If multiple runners are passing at the same time at different speeds, the inside of lane 2 is reserved for double passes.
-If you are taking an extended walk-break or have slowed enough to disrupt the flow of the rest of the race, please use the outside of lane 2 or inside of lane 3.
-If you are getting aid or using the restroom and need to get to the outside of lane 2, always check that you will not cut off another runner by doing so.
-Runners who are using short walk-breaks as a strategy for hitting their goals are permitted to do so without moving to the outside of lane 2. This rule is meant to impact runners who have slowed to the point of missing their stated goals or records and are taking an extended walk break and thus disrupting the flow of the event.
-While we love the camaraderie of ultrarunning, please keep the camaraderie in a single file line, not multiple people across multiple lanes.

Inside of lane 1- running or strategic walk breaks
Outside of lane 1- passing
Inside of lane 2- passing with multiple people
Outside of lane 2- Slow/walking

DROP BAGS

Bring your crew, chairs and drop bags. Runners will be able to set up on the infield, along the track though there will be a no-aid zone near the start/finish line.

CHIP TIMING

The MyLaps BibTag chip timing system will be used for the KUS 6/12/24 Hour Run. Your race bib is also your chip for timing purposes. Please do not bend or remove the timing chip from the back of the bib number. Since you will get your bib on race day/night, it is very important that you wear your bib as you start the race. It is also very important for your number to be on the front and visible at the finish line, so please attach it to the outside of any clothing. **IMPORTANT!** You DO need to cross the timing mat at 6:00am (or 6:00pm) at the start of the first lap. Once you have completed your event, please remove your bib and place it inside your vehicle to prevent it from inadvertently calculating additional laps.

AGE LIMIT

All runners under 18 years old must have a parent or guardian either running the race or at the race AT ALL TIMES.
