The Course
Please understand that the course is tentative and subject to change.
The proposed course, which will repeat that which we used in 2023, is quite remarkable. It covers jeep trails, single-track, historic estate paths, and winding single-track both open and technical. It features several profile climbs and descents which offer more elevation gain and loss per mile than all but a handful of SkyRunning events, a remarkable stat given that it's only 90 minutes from NYC. Its signature climb, Breakneck Ridge, one of the top hikes in the country according to trails.com and Newsweek (as well as a guy named Carl from what I hear – that could be rumor though) is steep, gnarly, exposed, and absolutely beautiful. Entrants range from some of the finest mountain and technical trail runners in the country, to those content with a chill day of hiking and running a really beautiful and challenging day on the trails with no eye for speed or competition.
The course may also be one of the most difficult trail half or full marathons that you will ever complete. There are technical and steep pitches including the signature Breakneck Point that at points require climbing and tolerance of exposure, technical stretches of footing, and significant elevation gain and loss. The risk associated with this terrain is significant and only those seasoned and prepared for this terrain should join the entrant pool.
The course offers beautiful views w/ panoramic river and mountain vistas, beautiful and historic single-track, and sets the stage for a grand challenge for runners of all levels. Join us for the adventure, vistas, and community, and leave knowing that you just completed one of the tougher trail courses anywhere.

What you'll get....
What you'll get is a beautiful course with a degree of challenge that rivals any. With registration you'll get the race including aid stations, post-race food from (hopefully) Fitnell Farms, and an event T or Tank (looking at a Salomon tank at the moment to mix it up). A Trucker can be purchased as an add-on. Know that portions of your entry will go toward donations made to the Hudson Highlands State Park as well as the New York New Jersey Trail Conference as both continue to do quite a bit of heavy lifting on the trails we'll be running.
Capacity
Open registration is set to 500 total between the two distances. Additional registrations may come in beyond that and even late in the game for "elite" athletes vying for Golden Trail Series standing or national team qualifying and estimated to total around 20 slots. It is also estimated that an additional 30 - 50 individuals will be pulled from the waitlist prior to raceday based on entrant drops. Occasionally individuals may leap frog on the wait list based on prior event volunteering or support.
Refunds?
The event has a no refund policy regarding cancellations and for any reason. Entrants may switch distances if desired (only if the other distance is not sold out), and roll-overs may be granted to future years and including other RNR events only if notified more than 30 days out from the event. No BIB transfers.
Camping
You are welcome to informally camp with us at Settlement Camp Friday night. It's not a formal camping area, just first come first serve on level grass and portajohns. It is an add-on during registration.
Poles?
You will need your hands for climbing and possibly descending at Breakneck Point therefore we don't recommend poles.
Event's current local time: 12:43 PM ET
