Thunder Chicken 100K Stage Races are now part of the Trail Mix Fund!
In an effort to improve diversity in trail racing and remove a potential barrier for the under-served and under-represented, the Trail Mix Fund pays the race registration fee for runners who cannot afford it or aren’t sure they belong in the sport.
We also believe that there are more BIPOC & LGBTQ+ people who would like to race and would enjoy being part of the community but aren’t comfortable taking that step of signing up to race. Waiving the registration fee alone won’t solve this problem, but maybe it can help some.
Terrain Trail Runners-STL's partnership with the Trail Mix Fund began in December 2025, and we hope you'll consider donating or applying!

COURSE DESCRIPTION
Stage 1 - 21-ish Mi - Tour de Rockwoods Range
Stage 1 features a demanding out‑and‑back route linking the scenic trail systems of Greensfelder Park and Rockwoods Range. Beginning on the Beulah Trail, runners will traverse the Fossil Ridge and Deer Run Trails before crossing into Rockwoods Range to take on the Roundhouse, Spur, Green Rock, and Fox Run Trails.
With approximately 2,650 feet of cumulative elevation gain, this stage delivers a true test of endurance and technical skill. The terrain varies from steep grades to flowing, rolling hills, with plenty of rocks, roots, and creek crossings to keep runners alert and engaged. The combination of rugged footing and sustained climbing makes Stage 1 a challenging and rewarding introduction to the course.
Stage - 2 - 26-ish Mi - Tour de Rockwoods Reservation
Stage 2 delivers a rugged out‑and‑back challenge that covers the full length of the Beulah Trail before linking the flats to the Green Rock Trail, Rock Quarry Trail, and a brief paved stretch of the Trail Amongst Trees. From there, runners connect to the Lime Kiln Trail Loop—tackled clockwise—before retracing their steps back to the finish.
This stage is a stout trail marathon in every sense. The route blends smooth, flowing singletrack with some of the steepest, most demanding climbs in Rockwoods Reservation. Expect technical footing, abundant rocks and roots, and terrain that demands constant focus. With a cumulative elevation gain of 4,150 feet, Stage 2 earns its reputation:
This one is tough nuggets.
Stage - 3 - 25K-ish - Tour de Greensfelder
Stage 3 highlights some of the finest singletrack flow that Greensfelder County Park is known for. The route links DeClue, Dogwood, and Deer Run before crossing onto Eagle Valley and ultimately climbing the Scenic Overlook Trail back toward the Beulah Shelter. And just when you think you’re cruising home, the final climb delivers a spicy sting—340 feet of elevation gain before you can ease into the finish.
While this stage is undeniably fast, it’s far from effortless. Expect punchy technical sections, scattered rocks and roots, and terrain that keeps you sharp from start to finish. With a cumulative elevation gain of 1,850 feet, Stage 3 blends speed with grit in all the right ways.
