Description

This is a fat ass or self support run.No Fees, No Awards, No Aid, No Wimps. You're on your own to navigate and run the route while carrying or plan everything you need for your run. No support whatsoever. Celebrate Chinese New Year with this fat ass 50 miler! It's a single loop of 51 miles with about 5k ft ups and downs, all on most beautiful trails of San Diego. No course marking. You'll need to navigate and stay on course. For this year of Horse we are running counter-clockwise. Note this is NOT a virtual run. You'll need to run this course on 2/14/2026 starting 6AM and finish it before 6PM if you want a finish time. It’s probably harder than most of the races you’ve ran so far. You're warned.

Location & Date

Start/Finish:
Canyonside Park Driveway, San Diego, CA 92126
WVR7+7P San Diego, California

Direction: from Black Mountain Rd, turn to Canyonside Park Driveway, drive straight (don't turn) until the end of ball park (field 9), turn right to a half paved half dirt parking lot.

Date: Saturday 2/14/2026
Start Time: 6AM.
Finish Time: by 6PM the same day (12 hrs cutoff).

Refill Places

There are some points you can refill water. I do my best to route the course pass those points and mark them on the map. I listed the landmark and approximate mile mark for counter-clockwise route, for clockwise subtract them by 51, e.g. 12 mi counter-clockwise will become 51-12 = 39 mi.

Old Pomerado Rd/Bette Brendixen Park, water fountain, mile 5.7 (45.3 clockwise)

Garden Rd Neighborhood Park, water fountain & rest room, mile 11.5(39.5 clockwise)

Chevron and Shell gas station, 215 Via Rancho Pkwy, mile 24.8(25.2 clockwise). Both open 24hrs. This is the major place you can buy water and food. It's about the middle of way in either direction. Be sure to stop by and take advantage of it. I intentionally route the course pass through both gas stations so you won't miss them. If you have friends to support you, this is also a ideal location, the address is: 3600 Sunset Dr, San Diego, CA 92128

Lake Hodges Visitor Center, food store, check for working hours, mile 28.4(22.6 clockwise)

Paradise Produce Market, local farmer's store, check for working hours, mile 35(16 clockwise). This store is about 0.1 mile north off the course on Del Dios Rd/S6. The course cross the pavement at this point, turn north to the parking lot, then climb a bit to the store. On counter-clockwise route, it's the last convenient place to buy some water and food, there is no refill place for the last (first for clockwise) 16 miles, so bear that in mind.

Course Map

This year we run counterclockwise. Again no support/aid of any sort. You are on your own. Ridewithgps is strongly recommended for navigation and route planning. It's the best app I've known. You can download all kinds of files from the route, gpx/kml/fit, csv file for cuesheet, even turn-by-turn instruction with map.
