Welcome to the Oldman Backyard Ultra by Youth One!
This event takes place beside the Oldman River amongst the seemingly endless rolling coulees. This is one of Alberta's first Backyard Ultras and a bronze level event for 2027 (Non silver ticket year) Despite the name, this event is for anyone young or old who want to test their abilities and see how far they can go until they can't. Run 1, 5, 10 or 50 laps on our 6.7 km course and take part in a memorable experience that is filled with an amazing community and very unique/top tier event. Event rules will meet the backyard ultra standards and will act as a qualifying event for those who really wish to push their limits.
What does registration cover?
This is not your typical race, its a running festival! Besides your multiple race day entry, your registration fee also includes a premium racer garment from Rabbit, a catered dinner (Pizza Party) on April 30th at Pavan, one of the best Aid Stations this side of Texas, and many surprises along the way (Depending on how long you make it ;)
New to a Backyard Ultra?
Backyard ultras follow a simple rule: runners start every hour on the hour, and follow a 6.7 km course. Pace doesn’t matter, as long as you finish the loop before the one-hour cutoff and are ready to start the next loop on time. After runners finish each loop (or “yard” as it’s called in a backyard race) they may rest, eat, refuel, cry—the options are endless. Racers must simply be at the starting line ready to run every hour on the hour until only one runner is left.
Backyard Ultra for a Cause
This is a non-profit event and Backyard Ultra for a cause! All proceeds and donations will be directed to Youth One. Youth One is a Youth and Family Centre founded out of Lethbridge, Alberta that provides free, mental health/prevention-based out of school programs, meals and support services for teens and families who need it most in our community. For every $1500 raised through this event, one individual youth's costs will be covered for the entire year, providing unlimited access to meal programs, support services, after school drop-in centre and more. This year 460 of these individual sponsorships need to be fulfilled. To learn more about Youth One and the impact it is having on southern Alberta's families, visit

*Youth One / Oldman BYU is a project of Bridges of Hope. When registration or donations are complete, you will see a transaction from Bridges of Hope on your bank statement.
Dropping Out / Roll Over Credit
April 13th drop out deadline:
A 50% roll over credit will be applied to next year's event if you drop out before this date.
