The JMF Trails Hillbilly Half
The 10th annual JMF Trails Hillbilly Half will take place 11/23/24 at Jefferson Memorial Forest in Louisville KY. C'mon down and wallow in the hollow and see what amazing trails the forest has to offer! These trails are tough! This race was started by Troy Shellhammer, my dear friend. He and his wife moved a few years ago and I have the pleasure of being the race director. We are so excited for this year! Todd and I have helped with registration and timing since the beginning of this race, in so many ways I am so happy to do this. I remember Troy and Kara when they first came to Louisville and began trail running. I saw them grow into the wonderful people they are today. This is a special race and I plan to keep it so. Before the Hillbilly Half there was a race called the Siltstone Half which I ran and loved. So come enjoy the race and continue with the history. This race begins at the parking lot for Horine. You will run to the lake, then to the Welcome Center, (this is a great downhill!) into Siltstone, across Jefferston Road, Bearcamp Road, then turn around atop a very long climb to run back to Horine. There is a lot on up and down in this course. A fun one to race!
Aid Stations
Aid will be at miles 2,5,8,11. They will be stocked with Sword Sorts drink, Water, Coke, all kinds of food, cookies, pretzels, chips, peanuts, peanut butter....it goes on. There will not be jells so bring your own if that is what you like. I suggest you bring a water bottle. You never know how long it may take you or what may happen along the way. Carry a reusable cup which is nice so if you have one bring it along.

Course Description
The race begins in the Horine area.
Runners begin by running around the lake in the Horine area and then descending the Yost Ridge Trail to the Welcome Center in Jefferson Memorial Forest where they pick up the Siltstone Trail.
Runners make their way down the Siltstone Trail past Bearcamp road to a turnaround on the ridge of the Siltstone Trail.
Runners return the same way they departed, just in a lot more pain and fatigued! Ha!
It should be VERY challenging and runners should expect their finishing times to possibly be as high as 150% of their road half marathon times.

Refunds
Refunds are NOT available. I am MORE THAN HAPPY to defer your registration to the following year.
Time Cut
There is a strict 6 hour time limit on the course. You will not be given a time and your timing chip will be removed if not on pace to finish in 6 hours. We would LOVE everyone to finish, but it isn't safe to allow runners on course after the time limit once aid stations are taken down and volunteers have gone home, etc. Our insurance requires this! We're a small community event. Thanks!
