MD Heat is moving forward! We have park and health departments OK! Sat Aug 15th. It would be an open format, starting anytime you like on Aug 15th, start anywhere you like on the course.
Very minimal race and aid. Think of this event as a watered-down version of regular trail events - get your running fix in with a sprinkling of socially-distant interaction.
There will be core aid station hours but otherwise participants are free to come and go. No bus, parking only inside or outside the park (since you can start anywhere).
This year is decentrally structured to encourage dispersion of people.
You will be required to carry with you: a face covering and hand sanitizer. The face covering can be a mask, buff, or other aparatus. It must cover your mouth and nose. The hand sanitizer must be able to kill covid - some lotions do not.
Aid at Swinging Bridge, Landing Road, and Avalon Picnic pavilion areas. Aid vastly different. No touching of gear, gloves, masks, no touching of food, prepackaged. Mostly for fluid intake and emergency.
Social distancing at all times is paramount.
Self-Reporting Station / Timing:
You will time yourself and submit your time afterwards. All participants must report once to the Self-Reporting Station at Avalon 105 in order to verify you were actually there. Top 10 finishers need to have GPS data for timing verification. All others will use an honor system, though if we find obvious cheaters, we can ask for GPS proof.
To review: Self-Report Station once. Submit us your time after. Doesn't need to be GPS unless you are a top 10 finisher.
Deferment and Cancellations
We are more sure of the event occurring now, but be aware that we could still be cancelled by the park, state, etc because of covid. If this occurs, everyones entry will be held for free entry in 2021. You will end up saving $$ because cost will go up in 2021. If you have extenuating financial circumstances, we can talk about getting your money back, but it is not guaranteed.

25k (16 miles) or 50k all trail, and a rockin' after-party! One long trail run on varying terrain, mostly forest shaded. Everything from rock scrambling uphills to single track downhills, to mountain bike havens, numerous stream crossings and as few fireroads as possible in order to get you back on lovable dirt enlightenment. ~2000 ft of upward elevation on the 25k and 4000' for the 50k. The trails are very technical and challenging. A great course to hike, run, or both. Its really an adventure and a beautiful park. You won't know you are 8 miles outside Baltimore. 3 Aid Stations with plenty of water and some food. Aid for the 25k will be every 4 miles, so at 4, 8, and 12. Course markings and detailed maps will be included.
The after party will include 20-30 varieties of craft beer, pulled pork BBQ, a vegan offering, kids water balloon fight, prize giveaway, and general fun!

Many will do the 25k, though the ultra 50k is growing more popular each year. It will be two 16 mile loops, with fewer guaranteed aid stations and a 10 hour expected finish time (we will be flexible within reason). Aid would be @ miles 8,16, 24 and 28 - meaning you need to self-sustain for 8 miles at a time.
Start time is 7am. There is a 12noon cutoff at the 16 mile (halfway) mark.
See parking info above in Covid section. Park anywhere inside or outside the park. It is advised to get creative here, so as to disperse yourself from others.
Parking is OUTSIDE THE PARK!
This applies to most runners, guests, spectators, etc. We have some select-few in-park spots and these participants will have applied and been emailed privately. If you are not one of these people, please do not enter the park. Volunteers and emailed participants are the only exception.
We will require that most runners and visitors make use of our shuttle buses or volunteer drivers to and from our parking area off of Rolling Rd:
Bus fee and park entry are included in the ticket price. Bus shuttling will occur from 6am-9:15am, and then after this, volunteers and racers themselves will give rides to people back and forth. We urge runners to arrive 1+ hr early at the parking lot, so we can transfer tons of you before the race start time with a minimal number of bus rides.
