Race Info

Along with our 50k and 25k distances we are introducing a 10k+ option in 2022! The 10k will traverse mostly single-track trails around the lake. Check out the trail map on our website.

Lodging - Holiday Lake 4H camp has several heated bunkhouses with capacity for 90+. Bunks in the bunkhouse are $20. The camp also offers 12 un-heated cabins with 4 bunks in each that are well suited for runners coming as a group who prefer to bunk together. $15 for unheated cabins. Tent camping is always an option in the field adjacent to the start/finish line. There is a $5 charge for tent camping. There are also two hotels in Appomattox. Links to the hotels are on our website.

We encourage runners to stay Friday night at the camp with us! Anyone who ran (or tried to run) in 2021 will know very well how conditions in mid-February can turn in an instant. 2021 runners experienced an ice storm the morning of the race, which prevented over 100 runners from starting the race because of road conditions.

The pre-race briefing is tentatively scheduled for Friday evening at the 4H camp.

Training Runs: We have two scheduled - 12/18 and 1/22 at 7:30am. Most attending will run one loop (approx. 16 miles), but there are shorter options if desired. We will meet at the Holiday Lake 4H camp at the start/finish of the race. Light aid will be provided.

COVID-19 updates

*COVID has impacted all our lives and the events we participate in. We will keep all runners informed on changes through our website. Check back periodically for updates to meals, aid stations, crew requirement, pre-race check-in, lodging, etc.* Please email the RD with questions using the “contact us” link on our website.

About

It is a great FIRST ultra event with over 2,000 feet of elevation gain. The weather can be from nice and pleasant to running in a foot of snow. Aid stations are located approximately every 4 miles. Runners start and finish at the Holiday Lake 4H Educational Center. The pre-race meal and lodging are all available at the 4H Center. Awards are presented to all sub 8 hour finishers.
