Laz's Big's Backyard Ultra Affiliation - "The Road to Big’s"
Ohio's Backyard Ultra is part of the "Road to Big's" series", serving as a "Bronze Ticket Race" in the 2025-2026 cycle, feeding into the Ode to Laz Backyard Ultra on 7/18/2026. Previously, OBU represented a "Silver Ticket" race designation from 2021-2024, sending many runners onto Big's Backyard Ultra. The winner of a Silver Ticket race will earn a spot on the 2026 World Team roster (see below).

The 2025 "World Individual Championship" (Odd-Numbered Years) Affiliation:
The 2025 year does not technically have silver ticket races, because the field of runners at the "World Individual Championship" will be made up of 75 runners who: 1. won their national championship, and 2. come at-large list of top results. The 2025 Big's Backyard Ultra will serves as the "World Individual Championship."
From Laz, this is how runners make it to the field of 75 at the "World Individual Championship": The top 50 winners of the national championships will secure berths at the World Individual Championships to be held at Big Dog’s Backyard starting October 18, 2025. In addition to those champions, there will be an additional 25 runners selected from the At-Large list… the top performances of the previous 2 year qualifying period (August 16, 2023 to August 15, 2025).
The 2026 "World Team Competition" (Even-Numbered Years) Affiliation: In 2026 Big's Backyard Ultra will service as the World Team Competition, which will be a 15-person team from USA. 6 of those runners will come from Silver Ticket Races and the other 9 will come from an at large list. The winner from the 2025 Ohio's Backyard Ultra will win a Bronze Ticket and have to option to run the accompanying Silver Ticket race for a chance to earn a spot to the "World Team Competition" at Big's.
