Description

Ever wondered what trail running is like? The Piedmont 8 Hour is a great intro to Ultras and trail running. The race returns for year 9 at Powhatan State Park. The 2.7 mile loop features approximately 60 feet of elevation change each loop. The trail meanders through open meadows and forest, presenting an ever changing view. Running the second to last weekend of October also means that you will see spectacular leave coloring.

Runners will have access to food and aid every time they pass the start line. Awards will be given to the top three finishers for males and females. Every runners logging either a half marathon or 50k will also receive a prize.

The aid station will offer typical Ultra foods, like gummy candies and chips. We will have Water, Tailwind and some pop (that's right, I'm from the midwest). It is a cupless event so bring your own cup.

This year, we are again proud to partner with the Cafe at Maidens. They will be providing boxed lunches to interested runners after 12pm. Boxed lunches will include a scrumptious sandwich, chips, cookie and can of Pop. Because the cost of the race is so low these will be provided as an add on feature. Meaning if you want it you pay for it at registration. You may also order food for family/friends. This may be a good option because there is no real food for around a 20 minute drive. Because we want you on the trails we keep the cost of this race low. $60 for an 8 hour race with a shirt is a steal. Because of this we do not offer refunds. We do offer a discount for Law enforcement, fire, medical, education, military and veterans. Enter code "Thanks" for a discount

Course

The course features a mix of open field running with some pine forests. The open field running features spectacular leaf views. There are typically also a lot of birds in the fields. There are 1 or 2 short hills but the terrain is very runnable. Most of the trails are double track and there aren't many roots or rocks.

The Parent Loop

We love seeing parent run loops with their children. Or vice versa. We want to reward families that do this. "Pacers" may sign up for the Parent Loop. They will complete one lap (at least) with their runner. It can be at anytime during the event. They will be timed for that loop only with their pacer. They will then receive an official loop time, finishers award and shirt. The idea is simply to get families out on the trail together.
