SISU 24 PNW

24 Hours. Endless Possibilities.

SISU 24 PNW hands you six trails, a weekend in the mountains, and says, "Go make your own adventure."

Most ultramarathons hand you a course map and tell you where to run.

Based from Camp Sheppard, just outside Mount Rainier National Park, SISU 24 PNW is a 24-hour choose-your-own-adventure trail event where every participant creates a different experience. Some runners chase points. Some chase miles. Some spend the weekend exploring waterfalls, tackling side quests, and swapping stories around camp between runs.

There is no single path to a great weekend. Whether you're chasing the podium or simply looking for an unforgettable adventure with an incredible community, you'll find your own version of success here.

HOW IT WORKS

Your base camp is exactly that, your home for the weekend.

Arrive Friday, set up camp, meet fellow runners, and settle in before the adventure begins Saturday morning. Throughout the event you'll head out from camp, choose whichever trail you want to tackle next, complete your adventure, then return to HQ before deciding what comes next.

Run the same trail twice if you loved it.
Save the biggest climb for sunrise.
Take a break, eat a meal, complete a side quest, then head back out.

Every decision is yours.

WHO IS THIS FOR?

SISU 24 PNW isn't about covering a certain distance. It's about choosing your own adventure.

Whether you're looking to complete your first trail ultra, spend a weekend exploring beautiful trails with friends, compete for the overall podium, or simply see what you're capable of over 24 hours, there's a place for you here.

Some participants run all day.
Some take long breaks between adventures.
Some carefully plan every point they hope to earn.
Others chase waterfalls, complete side quests, and enjoy the journey.

If you've ever wished an ultramarathon felt a little less serious and a lot more fun, you'll probably feel right at home.

SIX TRAILS. ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES.

Choose from six fully marked out-and-back trails ranging from approximately 3 to 19 miles. Every trail offers something different, from quiet forest paths and rushing waterfalls to long climbs with rewarding views.

Some runners spend the weekend trying to complete all six trails.
Others return to their favorites again and again.

Because everyone chooses their own route and pace, no two race weekends ever look the same.

SIDE QUESTS

Running is only part of the adventure.

Throughout the weekend you'll discover optional side quests that reward curiosity, creativity, teamwork, and problem solving. You might find yourself carrying an egg through the woods, solving a puzzle, identifying native plants, tying knots, helping with a community project, or discovering something entirely unexpected.

They're optional.
They're a little ridiculous.
They're one of the things people remember most.

RACE STRATEGY

Every trail is worth points, but those points change as the event unfolds. Finish a trail early and you'll earn more than someone who completes it later, creating dozens of different ways to approach the weekend.

Do you sprint for the highest-value routes before everyone else?
Do you focus on covering as many miles as possible?
Do you hunt down every side quest?

There isn't a perfect strategy. That's part of the fun.

Course Map Overview

  • The map gives a general overview of the trails used for the event.
  • Course is marked with colored ribbons (where possible) and laminated signs (when necessary).
  • Please do not move or disturb markers — it can be dangerous for others.

Important Guidelines

  • Some trails take you far from the campground. Once you’re on a route, you must finish it. No shortcuts.
  • Any form of cheating will result in a DNF (Did Not Finish). No exceptions.

Stamping + Check-In/Out

  • At the furthest point of each trail, you’ll find a rubber stamp.
  • Use your ink pad and quest log to stamp proof of your run.
  • Return to HQ to have your stamp verified and points logged by a staff member or volunteer.
  • You must check in and out before and after each run. This keeps you safe and lets us track your progress.

MORE THAN A RACE

SISU has always been about community as much as competition.

Your registration includes camping Friday and Saturday night at Camp Sheppard, giving everyone the chance to spend the weekend together instead of simply showing up, racing, and driving home.

Bring your family. Bring your crew. Bring a canopy, camp chairs, good food, and settle in for the weekend.

Camp Sheppard includes showers, flush toilets, running water, and plenty of room to build your own little base camp.

Many runners will tell you their favorite memories happened between runs.

AWARDS

Every participant receives a custom finisher award to commemorate their adventure.

Additional awards include:

  • Top 3 Overall Male

  • Top 3 Overall Female

  • Top 3 Teams

  • Master of Miles

  • SISU Spirit Award, voted on by fellow participants and presented to the person who best represents the spirit of the weekend.

REQUIRED GEAR

Required gear includes:

  • Headlamp

  • Hydration pack or bottles

  • Water filtration or purification method

  • Food for the duration of the event

  • Ink pad for your quest log

A complete racer guide, including recommended gear and race weekend information, will be sent to all registered participants before the event.
