About our event
Are you looking for a spring challenge? Trying to conquer a new distance? The inaugural High Lea 6/12/24 hour race is waiting for you! The course is 2.95 miles with 237' of gain. It works out to be about 9 loops for a marathon with 2,133' of gain, 17 loops for a 50 miler with 4,029' of gain, and 34 loops for 100 miles with 8,033' of gain. Temperatures in late May in Richfield average between 58 and 78 degrees- great running weather! Most of the course is shaded and runs on 90% camp roads and 10% trail. The camp roads are not paved- they are gravel roads. Walkers & hikers are welcome at this event!
A portion of the proceeds will go to capital improvements at the Richfield Heritage Preserve.
Covid 19 protocols
Due to Covid 19 still being a threat to our health and safety, we will have a staggered start at High Lea 6/12/24 hour race. Don't worry, you will have all of 24 hours to finish you race, it's just going to look a little different. We will start in smaller waves a few minutes apart to accomplish this. There will be plenty of space for passing on the camp roads, but be kind to your friends and other park visitors by not passing when you are on the single track portions of the course. We are working closely with the health department and Richfield Heritage Preserve to make sure this is a safe and fun event for all! More updates to come.
UPDATE: We are moving the aid station and start/finish line up the road a bit to the Summer Barn. The summer barn has electricity and with the food safety protocols from the health department this was necessary so that we can serve and prepare hot foods, sandwiches, and have fresh fruit at the race. We will give priority to the 24 hour participants to park by the summer barn (because they're running longer than the rest of you), followed by the 12 hour participants. The remainder of the participants will have about a .5 mile walk to the start area.
Sign up, then refer up to 4 of your friends. You get $5.00 back from each of their entries for up to $20.00 back on your registration. Good through May 1.
Belt buckles for 100 mile and 100k finishers
Medals for finishing a marathon/50k/50 mile
Finisher medals for 6 hour
Long sleeve T-shirts for all
Deadline to register and receive your preferred shirt size is 4/30/2021.
Aid station and camping
Our aid station will be at the High Lea Shelter pictured above. There are picnic tables and a fire pit in the open air shelter. There is camping available at High Lea and we are working on a plan to transport tents back to the site. More info to come.
We will have all the usual aid station food & drink, all in grab & go containers. Chips, pretzels, candy, PB&J, gels, soda, heed, and water. We will have ramen or broth overnight as well as coffee. UPDATE: aid station is moving to the summer barn. The camping area and parking for the 24 hour participants & campers will also be at the summer barn. See Covid 19 protocols above.
Restrooms can be found throughout the park along the camp roads. The restrooms do not have running water- they are from the old girl scout camp.
