This event has been postponed from Jun 12, 2020 to Sep 04, 2020
Important Update - August 19th
August 19th Approval Update: We have an approval! It is very limited in capacity and will not include our 27Km distance in 2020. If you are interested in running the 27K, we are holding a 27K race on Monday morning (Labor Day) which is hosted through the Flagstaff Extreme Big Pine registration page. All entrant's and runners on our waitlist/lottery have been emailed- please check your inbox as it is time sensitive.
You may still sign up for the waitlist until we have filled all slots for the Friday race. Thanks for your patience and we look forward to seeing you in Flagstaff!
July 17th Update: We have made the decision to postpone this race from August 7th until September 4th.
With the Governor's executive order that limits group sizes to 50pp in line until July 28th and with direction from the National Forest, we don't feel comfortable waiting until about 10 days prior to the race to make a final decision reliant on Governor Ducey's direction at that point.
We have submitted a few options to our permitting agencies with unique ways that we can hold this event, even considering adding Sunday into the mix to spread out our participants. If all parties felt comfortable with the races continuing, we would have held the races. However, that is not the reality in Arizona right now and safety has to be paramount.
We currently have a tentative approval from both permitting agencies for the September dates. Once we have a better idea of the direction that Arizona Health officials believe the state is headed, we'll have a more clear view of how that translates to our trail races. Hopefully that update will come in the first week of August.
I know there's been an awful lot of uncertainty and the waiting game makes it difficult to prepare for a race, and I do apologize for that. We will continue to prepare on the back end to hold a safe and enjoyable event in September utilizing COVID guidelines.
If you would like to participate in the race, we encourage you to sign up via a waitlist. This registration is risk free as once we are 100% sure the event will occur, you will then receive an invite to register where you can accept (CC charged) or decline.
Thanks for your patience and continued support
This event is NOT sold out.
Due to the uncertainty with COVID-19 we have made registration for this event a waitlist only because we feel it is irresponsible to continue to collect registration fees. We have no plans to cancel or reschedule this event and the event is not sold out as this page suggests. If the race goes on as planned, you will receive an email from Ultrasignup asking you to accept the invitation to register for this race. No money will be collected until you accept this registration. Please continue to check back for updates!
Welcome to the 6th annual Blackout Night Runs at Fort Tuthill County Park! Runners will get to experience both the Soldiers Trail and Highlands Trail Loop (except 6 Km runners who will run a modified Soldiers Trail loop) which winds through the ponderosa pines above 7,000 ft, eventually topping out on a mesa with expansive views of mountain landscapes before being enveloped back into the trees. The trail ranges from narrow single track to wide well-maintained forest paths. The course is well graded for beginners while allowing the more experienced runner to stretch their legs and gun for a fast time while still maintaining the challenge of being at a higher elevation. The course is designed as a multi-loop race with the 27 Km doing 2 full circuits (27 Km = 2 loops / 13 Km = 1 loop / 6 Km = 1 shortened Loop).
Check out our Flagstaff Extreme Big Pine Trail Runs, which happen the following morning (8/8) along the same trails! Challenge yourself with day and night versions of the race and earn a unique finishers medal!
Anything else you may need to know is located on our Blackout Night Runs website!
